Job Description:


MLSE LaunchPad is seeking a dynamic and engaging part-time Nutrition Hub Junior Assistant to support our Chef in the preparation, service, and cleanup of healthy and nutritious fresh lunches, snacks, and dinners for our summer camp programming for youth aged 6-14, and evening sport leagues for youth.

The Nutrition Hub Junior Assistant will report into and support the work of the Nutrition Hub Coordinator.


Please note:

This is an hourly role at 30 hours/per week and may be required to take on a flexible schedule to work some weekday evenings.


Responsibilities:


  • Manage daily cleaning routine including dishes, counters, equipment and appliances, sweeping the floor, and removing garbage. Ensure equipment is cleaned, sanitized and ready for use the next day.
  • Ensure the availability of clean dishes by washing dishes, pots, pans and flatware and resetting dinir areas including removing food on plates and cleaning waste.
  • Cleaning machines and appliances used in the kitchen, such as coffee makers, pots and pans, mixers, etc.
  • Sweeping and mopping floors as needed
  • Follow staff instructions to adhere to all health and safety procedures in the kitchen.
  • Provide input to the Health and Safety Committee regarding safety equipment requirements and equipment operation.
  • Ensure the program runs smoothly and fits into already established routines.
  • Work with other partner programs to ensure the space is shared in a collaborative manner.
  • Effectively communicate and interact with guests, partner program staff, MLSE LaunchPad staff and volunteers.
  • Assist in the preparation of healthy, nutritious highquality meals and snacks for members aged 6 to 18, from Monday to Friday.
  • Participate in all required orientation, training, and/or inservice meetings and trainings as scheduled/required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including occasionally supporting events and programs as required by the Nutrition Hub Coordinator.

Qualifications:


  • Ability to work both in a team and independently in a fastpaced environment.
  • Positive demeanor, calm under pressure, and high energy.
  • Time management skills, able to prioritize tasks in a busy setting.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
Ability to stand or walk for 8-hor shifts and lift at least 20 pounds

  • Willingness to comply with all food safety procedures and complete mandatory training.

Assets:


  • Lived, volunteer or work experience of in a similar environment with programs and services for children and youth.
  • Food Handlers Certificate is an asset.
  • HIGH FIVE: Principles of Healthy Child Development is an asset.
  • Standard First Aid & CPR certification an asset.

Other Requirements:


  • Criminal Record Check
  • Must be available on Monday to Friday to work 30 hours a week. Flexibility required as schedule may vary between 9am to 8pm.
