Reporting to the Senior Specialist, Regulatory Approvals, the Lead, Regulatory Approvals is responsible for acquiring regulatory approvals for major mine development or water quality management projects through our Social, Environmental and Regulatory Approvals (SERA) framework at our coal mining operations.


To be successful, we are looking for someone with strong applicable knowledge of federal and provincial regulatory approvals practices and regulations, especially within British Columbia.

This person is self-motivated, detail-orientated and can organize and prioritize contending demands.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as the ability to connect with internal and external parties to identify and resolve issues, are vital for success.

Responsibilities:


  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Establish and implement regulatory approvals and engagement strategies
  • Retain and manage the work of multidisciplinary consulting teams including environmental baseline programs, impact assessments, and related budget, scope management, and schedule
  • Engage with regulators, Indigenous nations, and local communities
  • Ensure alignment of regulatory approvals work with social responsibility and regional environmental programs, such as aquatic monitoring, water quality modelling, and cumulative effects
  • Deliver regular briefings and recommendations to internal SERA advisory groups and Project Boards

Qualifications:


  • Degree or diploma in Forestry, Biology, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or other related field
  • Minimum six years demonstrated ability in regulatory approvals, impact assessment, and project management in the natural resource sector, preferably in mining
  • Experience in engaging and collaborating with Indigenous nations, regulatory agencies, and other communities of interest
  • Strong digital literacy using Microsoft Office Suite; specifically Excel, Project, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Specific knowledge and experience with permitting under the following B

C legislation is an asset:
Mines Act, Water Sustainability Act, Environmental Management Act, and Forest Act
