An exciting opportunity exists within the Maintenance Department for a
Grounds Lead Hand - Projects . As the third largest school district in B.C.

and located in the Tri-Cities of Metro Vancouver, the school district has a population of 32,000 students with approximately 4,300 teaching, administrative, managerial and support staff.

This position reports to the Grounds Manager of Maintenance and is responsible for grounds work and related operations.

This individual will be using a variety of mobile grounds equipment including backhoe, flail, hydro-vac, and snow clearing instruments, while avoiding hazards by using equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

The Grounds Lead Hand - Projects will plan, organize, and implement excavation sites and ensure safe shoring and drainage. The Grounds Lead Hand - Projects is also responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations of an assigned grounds team. A high level of independence and sound judgement will be required.

Qualifications include:

Grade 12 supplemented by certification as a Level 3 Backhoe Operator and excavating equipment operation at a recognized college, institution / organization, including knowledge of applicable Work Safe BC and other safety legislation, regulation, and practices.
A minimum of five years recent, backhoe operating experience in existing fully serviced sites, or an equivalent combination of training and experience in the safe operation of heavy excavating equipment and twoyears of supervisory experience.
Mechanical aptitude and skill in operating and maintaining related equipment.
Minimum of four relevant supervisory or management courses from a recognized college/institution.
A valid Class 5 Driver's license.
Ability to communicate effectively.

This is a unionized position offering an attractive benefit package, which includes: MSP, life insurance, extended health, dental, pension (MPP) and a long-term disability plan.

Currently salary:
$33.13 per hour - 40 hours a week (Monday to Friday)

Hours of work: 7:00am to 3:30pm
