Research Assistant, part-time or full-time, Cultural & Indigenous Research in Counselling Psychology (CIRC) Lab

Job Summary:
The Research Assistant will assist Prof.

Dennis Wendt in the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology, in terms of coordination and administrative and logístical tasks related to research collaborations with Indigenous communities and organizations.

This professional may also, depending on interest and expertise, assist with coordinating Indigenous leadership initiatives in the Quebec Node of the Canadian Research Initiative for Substance Misuse (CRISM), for which Prof.

Wendt is a co-PI.

This Research Assistant will work with Prof.

Wendt as a research coordinator on several interrelated studies funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) concerning the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on mental health and substance use among Indigenous communities in Quebec and Atlantic Canada.

The professional may potentially also assist with collaborating on Indigenous substance use research and knowledge mobilization initiatives across Quebec and Atlantic Canada.

The position is an opportunity for someone looking to develop or expand community-based research experience with Indigenous communities.

List of Duties for the position: Assist with all aspects of research coordination, including, but not limited to, taking minutes at meeting, following up with individuals concerning tasks, and other duties specified below:

  • Process bills/invoices from research expenses; manage sub-awards; process remuneration to knowledge keepers and research participants; and manage all financial bookkeeping from research studies and grants;
  • Assist with preparing research ethics and grant proposals; manage ethics and grants requirements;
  • Manage data storage and management, in accordance with ethical guidelines, McGill policy, and community partnership needs;
  • Coordinate data management in keeping with OCAP (Ownership, Control, Access, and Possession) principles and other relevant principles or regulations of data sovereignty with Indigenous Peoples;
  • Assist with recruiting participants for research;
  • Manage confidential documents, such as consent forms and research agreements;
  • Organize materials, visual aids, and other materials as required for research and knowledge mobilization purposes;
  • Any other tasks that the position requires.

Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of research assistance experience or related project management experience.
  • Excellent ability to communicate in English AND French, both spoken and written, is essential.
  • Excellent organizational skills and conscientiousness and interest in clerical work are essential.
  • Good communication skills and creativity.
  • Capacity to learn to work with university financial and human resources softwares.
  • Authorized to work in Canada for the duration of the position.
  • Additional desired skills:_
  • Marked interest for communitybased research with Indigenous communities.
  • Individuals who selfidentify as Indigenous (e.g., First Nations, Métis, Inuit, American Indian, Alaska Native) are strongly encouraged to apply. We encourage you to mention your Indigenous identity in your letter of interest.
  • Knowledge of an Indigenous language will be considered an asset.
  • Experience with communitybased research or other workrelated experience with Indigenous communities is an asset.
  • Clinical or research experience with substance use prevention or treatment, health research, psychology, and/or psychosocial intervention is an asset.

  • This position may require at least some inperson work at the McGill University downtown campus.
  • Office space as well as any equipment needed for work at home will be provided.
