Strategic Account Lead (Eastern Canada)


The Strategic Account Lead (SAL) through clear direction, effective coaching, and motivation will lead and direct a team of Strategic Account Managers to achieve or exceed regional sales targets for Bayer Crop Science (BCS).

The SAL will develop marketing initiatives with their team and local Regional Sales and Account Managers to support the strategic direction with distribution partners that achieves BCS sales objectives for seed, crop protection products and Digital Farming Solutions.

This is a permanent home-base position travelling within Ontario to the Maritimes, based in Eastern Canada (ideally in Guelph, Ontario).


What you will do:


  • Provide leadership, motivation, and supervision to the Strategic Account Managers in Eastern Canada to meet or exceed regional sales objectives
  • Collaborate with Regional Sales Account Managers (RSAMs) to establish On-Ground Sales (OGS) budgets for Eastern Canada
  • Working with Sales, Marketing, and Market Development teams, lead the implementation of strategic customer planning and programming at distributor accounts that support their growth aspirations and maximizes Bayer's share and profitability for seed, digital and crop protection products
  • Monitor and analyze areas for team development, allocate resources for necessary training to maximize employee performance, job satisfaction, career opportunities and sales results
  • Professionally represent and build effective working relationships for Bayer with key business influencers at distributor head offices and regional management teams
  • Work closely with sales and marketing teams to incorporate customer needs into Bayer programming to maximize distributor commitment
  • Provide accurate and timely regional sales forecasting to the Director of Key Accounts, ensuring that production, demand and inventory management can be maximized
  • Develop, communicate and execute strategic plans and marketing initiatives with distribution partners that meet or exceed regional and distribution sales targets while remaining within discretionary programming budgets
  • Ensure development, tracking and reconciliation of programming to drive desired behaviors with distribution that drives sales success
  • Develop sales forecasts and commitments that support Bayer revenue and OGS targets for seed, crop protection and FieldView.
  • Design, implement and evaluate customer relationship building events that strengthen customer loyalty, enhance business interaction, and make Bayer a preferred supplier
  • Communicate to all relevant Bayer personnel timely customer / market information

Who you are:


  • B.A / B.S Business or Agriculture related degree (additional advanced level degree is an asset)
  • 12/+ years Sales experience, conducting contract negotiations (additional Marketing experience is an asset)
  • Experience leading, coaching and developing a sales team
  • A broad understanding of the Canadian crop production business, with more specific knowledge of this region as it relates to crop protection, seed, and digital tools
  • Demonstrated effective leadership and coaching skills to ensure that the team has the direction to meet and exceed regional goals in an efficient manner
  • Thorough knowledge of distributor philosophy, structure, and operating systems
  • Strong English communication skills both verbal and written to drive strong relationships with customers (French Bilingual an asset but not required)
  • Understand regional product strategies and adapt programming to combat aggressive competitive efforts
  • Able to travel within Canada
