POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:


Kitchen Supervisor - _
Mon-Tues - 5am - 1pm_


The Kitchen Supervisor coordinates the food services operations for a ministry unit, to ensure compliance with Canada's Food Guide, and to ensure compliance with applicable health regulations.


Cook - _
Wed-Fri - 5am - 1pm_


The Cook prepares and serves nutritious meals as outlined on menus in accordance with applicable food service and safety regulations.


BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

Kitchen Supervisor

  • Assists the Food Services Manager in the creation, development and maintenance the menu, at times giving recommendation to the ordering of food and supplies
  • Monitors food preparation to ensure all food and products are consistently prepared and serves according to recipes, portioning, cooking and serving standards
  • Assists FS Manager in deciding on the appropriate, creative and efficient use of food, including donations so as to minimize wastage
  • May participate in in the hiring, orientation, training, development and evaluation of Food Services personnel; ensures staff safety in compliance with the Health & Safety Standards, prepares and submits incident reports
  • Adapts work practices within specific parameters to ensure the efficient delivery of food services
  • Monitors operation of related equipment, recommends repairs and purchases as required
  • Assists with the ordering and monitoring of food and kitchen supplies and the establishment of guidelines for the security of food supplies and all cooking equipment
  • Ensure that supervision is provided to all kitchen staff and work therapy clients and volunteers assigned to kitchen
  • Maintain a high level of cleanliness at all times within the kitchen and storage areas. Direct and supervise staff to maintain a high level of cleanliness
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Cook

  • Prepares meals including meals for special dietary needs of the residents
  • Adapts work practices within specific parameters to ensure the efficient delivery of food services
  • Makes use of and decides on best use of resources, including donations to minimize waste
  • Follows guidelines for the safety and security of food and equipment and monitors practices to ensure adherence
  • May perform some employee supervisory duties in the absence of the Food Services Manager and Kitchen Supervisor
  • May supervises students, volunteers and / or residents in work therapy
  • May order food supplies
  • Maintain a high level of cleanliness at all times within the kitchen and storage areas
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willingness to adhere to the Mission Statement of Harbour Light and the values of The Salvation Army
  • One to three years cooking experience with at least one year in Institutional Cooking
  • Must be fluent in English, both orally and written
  • Has the ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Is knowledgeable about food preparation and is familiar with kitchen equipment
  • Current and up to date WHIMS, First Aid Level I, Food Safe Level I
  • MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL ATTAINED:
  • High School diploma, plus specialized courses of up to six (6) months.

Temp Full-Time - M-F, 5 am to 1 pm Until Return of Incumbent_

  • Background check consent.
  • A clear vulnerable sector screening.
  • A clean drivers abstract.
  • Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.

Salary:
$22.86-$25.58 per hour
