About this Opportunity:

Saplings Outdoor Program is seeking an individual passionate about working with school-aged children in outdoor environments around schools. The ideal candidate should thrive both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a dynamic forest program in alignment with the management.
  • Ensure the safety of all children during forest activities, hiking, tree climbing, and near water bodies or challenging terrains.
  • Prepare learning spaces and materials daily.
  • Oversee the maintenance, safety, and use of program tools and equipment.
  • Design seasonal activities and projects using natural materials.
  • Implement personalized mentorship approaches with a focus on empathy and consideration.
  • Participate in regular staff and parent meetings.
  • Effectively communicate with parents in person and occasionally over the phone.
  • Demonstrate physical capability to teach in various weather conditions and terrains while promoting risk-taking and physical development.
  • Encourage exploration of local flora, fauna, and outdoor skills.

Work Schedule:

  • One day per week on Thursdays from 2:30 to 6:00.
  • Opportunity to substitute at other program locations during the rest of the week.

Requirements:

  • Valid First Aid Certificate.
  • Current Criminal Record Check.
  • Experience working with school-aged children, preferably in outdoor education with a focus on student-led learning.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective interaction with children and parents.

Saplings Outdoor Program, situated in West Vancouver, offers a nature-based experience for children aged 2.5-9 years old. Our primary goal is to facilitate a safe and engaging connection between children and their natural surroundings. Nature provides invaluable education for children.
