Reporting to the Supervisor, Operations - Wastewater, this position performs all aspects of work related to the servicing, maintenance and inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of the sanitary collection system and associated pumping stations.

This role collaborates with the Wastewater Collection Senior Operator and assist in operations and maintenance of the treatment plants.

Under the direction of the immediate Supervisor or Senior Operator, carries out all duties using appropriate equipment effectively and in a manner that will ensure the safety of self, co-workers, and the public.

Additionally, the operator supports other Town departments by operating specialized equipment.


How you contribute to our organization:

  • Operate and maintain all wastewater collection systems and lift stations effectively.
  • Interpret SCADA trending data and make necessary operational changes.
  • Accurately document all operational changes in the facilities' daily logbook.
  • Maintain compliance with the ECA requirements and MECP regulations.
  • Fulfill the duties of "Operator in Charge" (OIC) as defined by the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation, and Parks (MECP) and O/Reg.12
  • Safely operate and maintain equipment, perform daily inspections, and report deficiencies for timely maintenance.
  • Performs installation of temporary traffic control devices such as lane and road closures, detours, flagging and all other required work zone safety requirements as per the Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7. May be required to act as a traffic control person via flagging or operation of other traffic control devices.
  • Safely operates and maintains all applicable equipment. Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment in a clean and tidy condition; performs daily inspections of same. Records deficiencies in the Vehicle Inspection Report which is then submitted to the Senior Operator or Supervisor for forwarding to the Fleet Division. Keeps all documents up to date in accordance with MTO
  • Operate vactor and heavy equipment, such as frontend loaders, backhoes, and tandem trucks, as needed for wastewater operations.
  • Conduct inspection, cleaning, and maintenance of wet wells and dry wells, along with pump maintenance.
  • Performs "On-Call" duties as per the conditions of Employment on a rotational basis.

What you bring to the team:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent required to obtain OIT, Class 1 or 2 licences.
  • Four (4) year postsecondary diploma/degree program in an environmental, engineering or applied science field preferred.
  • Operator in Training, Class 1 or Class 2 Wastewater Collection license per O.Reg 129/04, s
  • 12 years of experience working with heavy equipment, preferably in a Public Works environment.
  • DZ licence is required; however, the Town may hire qualified individuals without a DZ licence under the agreement that the new employee shall obtain their DZ licence within 1 year from their hire date.
  • Standard First Aid/CPR-C certification, or the ability to obtain within 1 month upon hire
  • Ability to pass Respirator Fit Test
  • Intermediate computer literacy utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams and OneDrive), Cityworks computerized maintenance management system, SCADA, and the internet.

Salary:
$ $28.78 (OIT)

$ $33.49 (Class 1)
$ $37.86 (Class 2)
plus employer paid benefits and OMERS pension plan

Hours:40 Hours per Week, plus standby duties on rotational basis
