The Michener Institute is looking to hire a Technical Manager, Network and Systems to manage the Information Management team and act as Leader in the IT Transformation Journey deriving from Michener IT Strategy and Roadmap.


Reporting to the Director, Digital Solutions, the Technical Manager will focus on enhancing and optimizing the IT Service, deliver the Project Portfolio and overall increase the end-users' satisfaction.


Responsibilities:


  • Oversee and supervises the daytoday activities of the network and systems team by assigning and directing work, providing mentorship and advice, resolving issues, ensuring ongoing work quality and monitoring workloads.
  • Lead and manage the initiatives outlined on the networking and security technology roadmap, by identifying capacity and capability requirements, procuring third party services and performing vendor management to execute on initiatives to stabilize and modernize Michener's IT infrastructure and networking environment.
  • Review, recommend, and implement a toolset for managing, monitoring and reporting on infrastructure components.
  • Review, update, and align Michener's IT policies to UHN's IT policies.
  • Formulate, document, and implement repeatable processes for network patching, system maintenance and upgrades, asset management and tracking.
  • Act as the escalation point for major incidents and lead the team through to resolution.
  • Collaboration with UHN Digital teams to find synergies across the platforms.
  • Monitors all networking equipment and infrastructure to ensure availability and high performance at all times.
  • Oversee the functioning of the data center and data closets on and off premise for the Michener Institute, along with the fiber and wifi connections.
  • Secure Michener's environment through firewall configurations, VPN connections, and robust security measures and toolsets
  • Manages relationships with vendors and external technical support providers.
  • Assist the Directors and other peers to contribute to the IT strategic planning function, establish best practices and processes and maintain IT to business alignment.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to the executive team, and key stakeholders, effectively communicating strategic concepts and initiatives.
  • Evaluate new strategic initiatives by designing and developing detailed business cases and lead the evaluation, scoping, and writing of business cases.
  • Identify and evaluate potential technology vendors, conducting thorough assessments to determine their suitability for the organization's needs.
  • Collaborate with crossfunctional teams, including IT, legal, and procurement, to establish selection criteria and evaluate vendor proposals.
  • Lead contract negotiations with technology vendors, ensuring favorable terms and conditions that align with the organization's requirements.
  • Monitors all networking equipment including Cisco Switches, Routers, and Firewalls.
  • Evaluates and maintains network performance including, but not limited to availability, utilization, throughput, and latency.
  • Monitors and manages IT backbone infrastructure including, but not limited to DNS, DHCP, enginebased Antivirus, LAN/WAN, and corporate SAN.
  • Monitors, maintains and upgrades virtual servers within VMWare.
  • Monitors, tests, and troubleshoots backup systems; supports disaster recovery planning & operations; Experience with Altaro an asset.
  • Supports and coordinates network security measures and protocols in order to ensure systems and data are protected and secure.
  • Supports services for Microsoft related technologies such as Microsoft 365, Windows Server, Active Directory (onprem and Azure AD) and Exchange Server.
  • Provides continuity of service to other areas of systems administration during the temporary absence of other administrators.
