Homemaker, Home To Stay

(Casual)

We are looking for a Homemaker to work within our In-Home Support program, Home to Stay. The Home to Stay program assists seniors with complex needs to remain in their own homes with suitable supports.


Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Homemaker provides housekeeping assistance required to clients, while ensuring the safety of the client's environment.

The Homemaker also provides engagement in activities, conversation, friendship, and social activities to clients and respite services for families and caregivers.


Responsibilities include:

Providing companionship and support as defined within the client's care plan which may include:

  • Providing clients with companionship and social interaction (i.e., escorted walks, puzzles, games, reading, etc.)
  • Providing family and caregivers with regular updates and client security checks
  • Home safety to minimize risk of slips, trips and falls, as well as sanitation through the maintaining clean living areas (i.e. bathroom sanitization, sweeping and washing floors as needed, bed and linen changes, dish washing, dusting, laundry assistance, etc.)
  • Reports on environmental safety issues (i.e. client equipment requiring service, etc.)
  • Completing and reporting "Safety Assessments" on potential client risk
  • Perform other related duties as required under client service plan

Qualifications required:


  • Postsecondary education in related community support and/health care field is an asset (i.e., Social Service Worker, Development Service Worker, etc.)
  • Related experience is an asset (i.e., community supports services, homecare, or health care facility, etc.)
  • Sound knowledge of health and safety practices, consumer products and personal protective equipment and WHMIS within specific environments
  • Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Sensitivity to the needs of adults and persons with disabilities, including challenges in cognition
  • Physical ability sufficient to accomplish cleaning, vacuuming and associated furniture moving (for cleaning) activities
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and respond with a sense of urgency when required
  • Current Standard/Emergency First Aid with Level C CPR
  • Driver's class G or G2 License, a vehicle and the ability and willingness to drive within Durham Region
  • Clear driver's abstract
  • Current immunization record (TB test completed within the past 12 months) is required upon hire
  • Adherence to COVID19 safety practices including two doses of COVID19 Vaccine (where medically able in accordance with our Immunization Policy)

Compensation:
Starting at $20.00 per hour plus the $3 wage enhancement; with 4% vacation pay

*Pay will be commensurate based on education and experience.
