GFL Environmental is looking for a full-time Parts and Service Advisor - Afternoon Shift to help support our operations in Ayr, ON.

The Parts and Service Advisor is responsible for providing administrative support for the afternoon operations of the maintenance shop. The Parts and Service Advisor reports to the Maintenance Manager and works collaboratively with the maintenance team


Key Responsibilities:


  • Providing reliable support and assistance to maintenance department at all times.
  • Support day time Parts Advisor by maintaining parts inventory, ordering, receiving, invoicing and assigning parts as needed.
  • Responsible for conducting routine part and supply inventories.
  • Creating, assigning and closing repair orders (RO's) for preventative maintenance, running repairs, third party work, equipment damage and breakdowns.
  • Creating, assigning and closing purchase orders (PO's) for parts and service.
  • Managing DVIR process in an accurate and timely manner by collecting pertinent information on major and minor defects, communicating required repairs to maintenance staff and providing final confirmation of repairs to drivers.
  • Creating reports from internal data related to inventory variance, running repairs, units out for repair, outstanding DVIR defects and monthly reconciliation of accruals.
  • Responsible for managing driver repair requests by communicating with drivers, reviewing requests with appropriate personnel, scheduling repairs and filing relevant documentation.
  • Supporting mechanics in all aspects of parts and service providing.
  • Other responsibilities include but are not limited to; sorting parts, working closely with shop supervisors and lead hands, shuttling mechanics, scanning and filing as needed.
  • Taking direction from and working collaboratively with management to successfully complete tasks.
  • Picking up parts and supplies from vendors as needed.
  • Maintaining an organized, tidy and efficient parts area.
  • Other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Knowledge, Skills, Competencies:


  • GED (High School) diploma. Postsecondary courses or diploma would be considered an asset.
  • Valid license or reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Programs (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Experience with TMT and Peoplenet software will be viewed with priority.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring cooperation and instruction.
  • Proven ability to multitask and prioritize tasks.
  • Strong organizational skills.
