Objectives:


  • The objective of this position is to coordinate and supervise concrete crews, materials lay down, and equipment in order to successfully complete the awarded projects safely, as specified, on schedule and on budget. The position will assist the General Superintendent in the overall management of assigned projects.

Responsibilities:


Health, Safety and Environment

  • Demonstrates a commitment to a safe work environment. Understands the safety objectives of the organization and supports these efforts in a visible manner.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner.
  • Administers Safety Policies and Programs to employees
  • Conducting Safety meetings

Operations:


  • Constant monitoring of crews to ensure safety standards are adhered to
  • Schedule crews to meet completion dates
  • Lead foremen in coordinating daily tasks, including personnel, equipment, and materials
  • Maintain quality as per specifications
  • Minimizing deficiencies and rework
  • Accurate and ontime reports, including time approval, production, materials, etc.
  • Recruiting and hiring qualified employees
  • Assessing performance and managing development of employees
  • Attend weekly scheduling meetings
  • Maintain and develop strong working relationships with customers and/or representatives
  • Close collaboration with colleagues within the Construction management teams, other product lines and project stakeholders
  • Monitor production reports, report deficiencies and potential issues as soon as they appear or are foreseen
  • Maintain a daily diary
  • Supervise, train, and act as mentor to all crews
  • Estimate and/or assist estimators with tenders
  • Effective fleet management including equipment utilization, mobilization, maintenance
  • Ensure that expectations are clearly defined to workers
  • Willing to work overtime, nights and in all weather conditions Track and report daily job productions and job coding

Qualifications

Education

  • Certified Engineering Technologist Diploma, or related postsecondary education preferred
  • Equivalent handson experience will also be considered

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Class 5 Driver's license
  • Concrete experience minimum of ten years' handson, field based supervisory experience preferred including machine control.
  • Estimating experience is an asset
  • Proven ability to lead multiple crews
  • Ability to accurately schedule crews, work and materials
  • Effectively communicate and coordinate with internal stakeholders
  • Ability to both lead by example and delegate responsibilities effectively within a team
  • In depth understanding of operation of heavy equipment for road construction
  • Basic mechanical knowledge
  • Solid understanding of quality control
  • Strong supervisory skills and interpersonal skills
  • Sound knowledge of Safety Policies and Programs
  • In depth product knowledge
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications
  • Strong conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to make decisions in a timely manner, sometimes with incomplete data and under tight deadlines and pressure
  • Knowledge of MS Project, Bid2WIN, MS Office, SAP are an asset
