This position will be located at our Head Office in Markham, Ontario and will have flexibility for both remote and in-office work based on our hybrid work model.

This is a 14 month contract opportunity.


What you will deliver:

  • Provides expertise for the research, design, implementation, communication and support of statutory, insured benefits, retirement savings programs as well as programs such as Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP).
  • Reviews and analyzes current benefit programs and processes and makes recommendations for program/process harmonization and improvements.
  • Acts as a SME and business partner specific to Extendicare's pension and benefits offerings. This involves partnering with the HR Business Partner team and business leaders to address escalated questions for employees, providing SME advice on exceptions as needed, and creating and delivering communication/educational materials to HRBP team and business.
  • Works with and provides direction to thirdparty partners of Extendicare including service providers, consultants and thirdparty administrators.
  • Support the Request for Proposal (RFP) process by drafting RFP's/RFQ's related to benefits and retirement savings programs and participates in the evaluation and selection of vendors.
  • Assists with enhancing the governance framework of our retirement savings/pension plans.
  • Reviews and responds to legislative changes that have an impact on company benefits, retirement savings and employee program policies and practices, staying ahead of trends, issues, and changes in legislation, industry developments, government policy and regulations.
  • Acts as an SME to the ERP Workday project team by providing ongoing support and enhancement of benefits and retirement savings programs / processes for a successful Workday implementation.
  • Maintains data integrity of benefits and retirement savings programs & processes in Extendicare's Human Resources Information System (Workday). This includes auditing data for accuracy and compliance, maintaining business processes specific to benefits and retirement savings programs (eligibility, cost sharing, waiting period, pension plan enrolment, beneficiary changes/updates, etc.).
  • Provides analytical support for benefits contracts and renewal processes, cost containment initiatives, budgeting and financial statements for insured benefits/retirement savings programs.
  • Participates in or leads projects as assigned.

What you bring to the role:

  • University Degree in Human Resources Management or Business Administration.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience with benefits and retirement savings plans.
  • CEBS or other equivalent designation (completed or in progress) is an asset.
  • Prior exposure to compensation would be considered an advantage.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel and MS PowerPoint. Working knowledge of other MS Office Suite products.
  • Customer-focused attitude, with the ability to understand, anticipate and identify customer needs.
  • Ability to collect and use information to thoroughly think through problems and situations; pulling information from various sources and putting it together to see the 'big picture' and generate creative solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of HRIS, preferably Workday.
  • Expert analytical skills with a strong detail orientation.
  • Ability to present information clearly and effectively both verbally, and in writing.
  • An active listener who projects a friendly demeanor.
  • Solid organization, planning, time management, attention to detail, and multi-tasking skills.
