The Ministry is responsible for:

developing and evaluating curriculum; teacher development and certification; supporting students with diverse learning needs; funding and supporting school boards; First Nations, Métis and Inuit and Francophone education; and overseeing basic education policy and regulations.


The System Assurance Branch is responsible for strategic leadership and direction in the development and continuous enhancement of the assurance framework for school authorities and schools in Alberta's K-12 education system.

The branch works to provide quality data and reporting to serve the Ministry in efforts to use evidence to inform decision-making.

This includes working with our colleagues within the ministry and education stakeholders to develop and integrate new performance measures, administration and evaluation of system-wide surveys, and the transformation of data through analysis into meaningful performance results to inform planning and decision-making.


Role:


The Senior Manager, System Assurance is a key member of the System Assurance team that provides leadership, high quality service and support to Alberta Education stakeholders and school authorities in implementing provincial legislation, regulation and policy.

This position will have a focus on the assurance framework for school authorities, including planning, reporting, performance measurement and supporting resources.


Reporting to the Director, System Assurance, this position functions within the parameters of applicable government and Ministry legislation, regulations, policies, directives and procedures.


In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading the ongoing development and implementation of the Assurance Framework and related planning and reporting requirements for school authorities
  • Developing and annually updating the school authority planning and results reporting requirements in collaboration with relevant business areas
  • In collaboration with Field Services sector, ensure that school authority education plans and annual education results reports are reviewed for consistency with requirements and discussed with school authorities to support continuous improvement.
  • Providing formal or informal support and capacity building to school authorities who require assistance with planning and reporting requirements
  • Ensuring technical team develops and implements performance measures, analyzes, and reports results to schools and school authorities to support Assurance Framework requirements.
  • Leading and supporting ministry staff in developing their understanding of the Assurance Framework and building their capacity to provide support to school authorities and schools and promote continuous system improvement.
  • Supporting both ministry staff and school authorities to build their capacity to use data related to the Alberta Education Assurance Measures and/or local measures effectively in decision making, and to inform improvement strategies, execute effective program /project evaluation, and implement effective assurance processes.
  • Developing and facilitating learning sessions and presentations for internal staff and external stakeholders related to the Assurance Framework and other topics as appropriate.
  • Researching issues and prepare briefings and responses to Action Requests.
  • Actively supporting and contributing to branch, sector, and division leadership teams, including supporting the development, implementation, and evaluation of operational plans.
  • Consistently demonstrating leadership, communication, collaboration, and teamwork behaviors with clients, stakeholders, and team members, relating to the Ministry and government initiatives, projects and programs.
  • Establishing and maintaining strong communication and working relationships with key partners, clients, and stakeholders, to ensure timely and accurate communication between the Ministry and school authorities, identification of issues, and provision of high quality service delivery.
  • Maintaining current knowledge in education research and pedagogy to support senior sector representatives.

Qualifications:


A University Degree in any of the following: Education, Business or the social sciences is required, with a minimum of six years of progressively responsible experience.

Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one-for-one basis.
