Overview:

Term: 2 years


The Web Specialist will provide day-to-day administration and maintenance of the public websites, including research sites, adhering to the university's web strategy and policies.

The incumbent is the first point of contact for members requiring technical assistance with web updates.


Responsibilities:

Web Content Creation

  • Coordinates publishing new content and updating existing content as needed, including but not limited to events, news, and announcements on the Faculty and department websites
  • Supports departments and units in the creation, development, and management of websites and web content.
  • Develop and run event/campaignspecific websites
  • Finds innovative and exciting new ways to present web content
  • Advises on web content strategy, informational hierarchy, and best practices for Faculty of Mathematics and affiliated websites
  • Creates and maintain best practice documents to help guide and support website content creators, administrators, coop students, and web users across the Faculty
  • Advises and acts as a resource on matters relating to web development
Website Monitoring & Maintenance

  • Provides web support, training, guidance and resources to departmental web representatives, including troubleshooting and escalating problems
  • Supports WCMS 3 (and future) migrations, including preparation, migration and helping stakeholders adopt and succeed in the new system
  • Ensures Faculty and affiliated websites are properly functioning, user friendly, and following best practices for UX/UI
  • Reviews Faculty of Mathematics and affiliated websites to ensure accessibility compliance and coordinate with web users to rectify content that is not compliant
  • Monitors and reports on metrics for web, digital initiatives and identify, and track related internationally respected measures
Knowledge Gathering and Transfer

  • Stays up to date on current UX/UI trends and best practices and shares this knowledge with colleagues/stakeholders
  • Analyzes industry leaders' websites to identify new opportunities for content and stylistic changes to Faculty website
  • Consults with web users, stakeholders, internal, and external audiences to find ways to improve web sites and processes
Relationship Building

  • Creates strong bonds with the Mathematics Communications Team and frequent clients within the Faculty
  • Works closely with Faculty of Mathematics Communications Team and maintains open communication to ensure client needs are being met
  • Develops and build strong relationships and maintain a network with Faculty of Mathematics colleagues involved with web maintenance and development
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with web content maintainers from across the University and participates in round tables/working groups where applicable

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a postsecondary diploma in a related field, bachelor's degree preferred
  • A combination of equivalent education and/or experience will be considered
  • 2+ years of experience in web development and content management
  • 2+ years of experience providing tier one technical support including troubleshooting various technologies in an office work environment
  • Proficiency in Latex, Microsoft Office Applications, DRUPAL and Google Analytics
  • Proven ability to cultivate relationships with both internal and external audiences
  • Ability to influence and motivate others
  • Disciplined approach to planning and project execution with exceptional attention to accuracy and detail
  • Independent judgment in areas of time management, task prioritization and decisionmaking
  • Proven ability to multitask, manage a large volume, conflicting priorities and deadlines
  • Exceptional verbal and written communications skills
  • Proven ability to manage a large volume of work, conflicting priorities and deadlines
