The Construction Support Services Branch operates as a central engineering and specialized support group within the Engineering and Technical Services Division of the Manitoba Department of Transportation and Infrastructure.

Services are provided with a staff complement of civil engineering and technical staff highly skilled in materials, pavements, and geotechnical engineering design, assessment, and management.

Critical resources include specialized lab and field testing equipment and corporate infrastructure databases.


Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 licence without restrictions.
  • Must possess and maintain CCIL (Canadian Council of Independent Laboratories) certification, or be able to obtain the required training within 6 months of hire.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 kg.
  • Must be able to travel to construction sites by ground, air, or water transportation.
  • Must be able to be around job site hazards, including construction equipment, rough terrain, roadway traffic, loud noises, dust, insects, vegetation, and chemicals and fumes.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Civil Engineering Technology Diploma or completion of the department's level 3 training program. An extensive combination of education and work experience may be considered
  • Considerable experience in all aspects of Mobile Operations, including but not limited to: Nuclear Density Gauge, Field Testing Equipment Stores, Mobile Lab Operations, Soil Survey, Coring, High Speed Laser Profiler/Profilograph Incentive, Automated Network Survey, Falling Weight Deflectometer, Ground Penetrating Radar, and Culvert Inspection.
  • Supervisory experience including providing direction for Human Resource job functions such as recruitment, training and development, workplace health and safety, etc.
  • Strong verbal communcaition skills including experience communicating with a high degree of policital accum and tact, as well as present information clearly to a wide variety of stakeholders, inluding experience public speaking.
  • Strong written communication skills including experience preparing technical documents or reports related to Mobile Operations.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of Occupational, Safety, Health & Risk Management policies and Procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and courteously with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of financial management principles and practices.

Duties:


The Mobile Operations Manager reports to the Director of the Construction Support Services Branch and administers, manages, and directs the development of the mobile operations, laser profiler, Miller Road lab, falling weight deflectometer, nuclear density gauge and field testing equipment stores program.
