Ruth and Naomi's (RAN) is a Christian faith-based organization with a vision and commitment to see the lives of people experiencing homelessness, poverty, and struggling with addiction transformed by the love of God.

To assist in this work, we are seeking a full-time Assistant Manager to work at our Community Outreach Centre.

As a member of the Ruth & Naomi's Leadership Team, the Assistant Manager is expected to be active within the local Christian community and sign a statement of faith upon hiring.

Our Pathways Shelter is a 24-hour facility that provides meals, shelter, and other services to those experiencing homelessness. We operate an Overdose Prevention Site (OPS) and provide a warming and cooling space depending on the season.

The Pathways kitchen provides participants with 3 meals/day and the dining area converts into a mat program at night for up to 44 individuals.

Our Revive Shelter is also a 24-hour facility and provides semi-permanent shelter for 45 individuals who also have access to the Pathways kitchen.


The Assistant Manager reports directly to the Pathways/Revive Manager to oversee the services operating out of the Community Outreach Centre.

In addition to the Revive and Pathways programs, the Assistant Manager supports the oversight of the peer support programs, and additional shelters during the fall and winter months, including a Extreme Weather Response shelter.

The Assistant Manager hold an administrative role within shelter operations, overseeing resources and support for participants, reporting, and managing employees.

This role manages the shelter in the absence of the Manager and works independently and with autonomy.


Core Responsibilities:


  • Support in the oversight of the Community Outreach Centre operations, ensuring quality service and care is provided for participants by working collaboratively with staff & community resources;
  • Ensure the safety and security of clients, employees, and volunteers;
  • Participate in participant intakes & assessments, advocate for resources and awareness, and daytoday operational concerns in conjunction with the Revive/Pathways Manager;
  • Coordinate room inspections, fire drills, and other health and safety reviews as necessary;
  • Manage payroll, scheduling, and staff issues, escalating to the Revive/Pathways Manager where appropriate, and participate in recruiting staff;
  • Support on identifying training and development opportunities and coordinate delivery for shelter staff;
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting for shelter operations and programming, providing detailed notes and statistics
  • Ensure quality and effective communications with participants, colleagues, reports, volunteers, and external agencies;
  • Develop policies and procedures for shelter operations in collaboration with the shelter manager;
  • Liaise with other department in developing our continuum of care to ensure the successful transition between our services and in & out of our scope of care
  • Other tasks as assigned

Assets & Experience

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent training in a related field required, with priority given to the disciplines of psychology, addiction recovery, social work, or counselling;
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, experience in managing employees preferred;
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention and/or Managing Hostile Interactions training an asset;
  • Experience working with marginalized or disadvantaged populations an asset;
  • Experience working in a stressful, emotionally challenging environment with awareness of security protocols an asset;
  • Strong with technology, with the ability to learn new systems and software quickly; high proficiency with the Microsoft Suite required
  • VAT training an asset.
