Scope/ Purpose of the Position:

Reporting to the Manager, Technical Tooling and Strategy at Air Canada Maintenance (ACM).

The Team Leader ACM Tooling is a vital part of a valued team that ensures ACM is equipped with all the necessary tools to provide a safe and airworthy product.


This role is responsible for liaising with internal customers of the Line Maintenance Organization and ensuring that operational equipment is duly fulfilled in a timely fashion.


The incumbent is the main point of contact within ACM for all critical demand of tooling and responsible for identifying the main challenges that create disruptions and inefficiencies in fulfilling tooling requirements.

The incumbent is also responsible for communicating the current operational priorities to the Line Maintenance business units and escalating any unresolved issues to the GM, Technical Tooling Program.


Accountabilities (Responsibilities):


  • Initiate/Monitor/Coordinate/Track tooling requests to support daily operations and overnight tasks, active participation in daily operations calls and follow up on resolution and action items
  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining tooling related processes with Logistics (stores and tool cribs), Production Control (tool planning), AOG and Purchasing (tool procurement) and Line Maintenance (tool tracking and control) system wide
  • Liaise with Logistics (tool cribs) on locating, moving and warehousing tools, monitor order execution status and track/improve inventory accuracy
  • Ensure tools are returned to tool cribs by mechanics within specific timeframe, actively monitor tool tracking & control to meet airworthiness standard
  • Assist Planning/Production Control on identifying tooling requirements for maintenance tasks and creating transfer orders on moving tools, ensure any movement is duly fulfilled in a timely fashion
  • Support AOG desk on urgent tooling procurement request
  • Review all loans and borrows request from other airlines/MROs, ensure returning of tool in a timely fashion and transactions properly reflected in the system
  • Point of escalation for any tooling that is received with snags.
  • Communicate any tooling provisioning need to the Tooling Asset Manager and monitor issues and escalations from the operation
  • Assist in formulating a demand for funds by providing aircraft maintenance, the tool requirement, cost, quantities and locations to obtain an authority for commitment (AFC).
  • Coordinate the tool and equipment acquisition and repair policies by initiating, coordinating, monitoring every step of the process.
  • Ensure ACM control manual processes and standards are always followed, participation in developing/improving standard operating processes for tooling
  • Keep abreast of new developments by keeping contact with tool and equipment manufacturers, and suppliers.
  • Participate in development of facility requirements for production equipment by supporting Stores, CRE and other projects related to space management and tooling for hangars
  • Coordinate between directs, vendors or ASE Engineering to troubleshoot and solve equipment problems.
  • Ensure the traceability of all processes, equipment and publications and ensure accurate records are safeguarded (certificates, etc.).
  • Prepare/assist in the development of new projects and monitor execution thereof by providing expertise and guidance on operational tooling requirements.
  • Coordinate the disposal of obsolete and beyond economical repair tools, as per the ACM control manual process.
