Working for the Department/Faculty
Psychiatry is a department in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta. Our department couples basic science with clinical research to promote world-class investigations on issues relevant to mental health.


We have an active training program for psychiatry residents, with input from psychiatrists and other mental health professionals from the University of Alberta Hospital, Grey Nuns Community Hospital, Royal Alexandra Hospital, Misericordia Hospital and Alberta Hospital Edmonton.

We also offer separate MSc and PhD programs for graduate students (they are also available to psychiatry residents).

The Department also has a diverse group of outstanding scientists who are internationally recognized. These scientists are carrying out some of the leading-edge research in neuropsychiatry, mood and anxiety disorders, and schizophrenia.


Position


The Medical Education Program Administrator (MEPA) develops, coordinates, maintains, and supports the medical education administrative activities within the program(s) they coordinate.

The position works both independently and within a team structure to administer many detailed complex tasks and projects.

Under mínimal supervision of the Academic Department Manager and Program Director, this position requires high levels of communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.

Equally important and required, the individual in this position would have the ability to take initiative, decision making and proactivity skills, be creative, and thrive in a highly demanding and fast-paced demanding environment.


Duties

PROGRAM COORDINATION

  • Course Administration
  • Ensures rotationspecific objectives are current; distributes to residents as required.
  • Coordinates resident's eligibility for registration and participation in meetings and courses.
  • Drafts and prepares letters, memos, and reports, transcribes confidential documents regarding residents academic status (e.g. reference letters, provisional status reports, etc.)
  • Updates and maintains program's Google calendar with academic sessions, events and deadlines
  • Scheduling Process
  • Develops draft rotation schedules for all PSYC residents as well as offservice residents
  • Maintains, coordinates, and accommodates necessary schedule changes for all PSYC residents as well as offservice residents
  • Evaluation Process
  • Administers trainee evaluation process
  • Maintains webbased evaluations by distributing evaluations, monitoring receipts
  • Ensures followup on incomplete assessments
  • Collects and disseminates faculty evaluation data via webbased system
  • Compiles and analyzes data on resident evaluations of rotations and faculty
  • Committee Meetings
  • Attends and supports the Residency Program Committee (RPC), Competence Committee (CC), and
  • Coordinates weekly meetings with the Program Director/other MEPAs
  • Arranges, attends, and supports resident retreat or program organizational meetings
  • Examination Process
  • Notifies residents of examination deadlines and schedules (e.g. specialty exams)
  • Coordinates and attends inperson and virtual Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs) and other resident examinations
  • Communications/Public Relations
  • Acts as a primary contact and resource for the PSYC Program, Program Directors, Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME), Professional Association of Residents of Alberta (PARA) and the Royal College of P
