About the Role:


Reporting to the Senior Manager, Benefits & Pension, you will play a key role in leading all Corus pension activities within a non-union and union environment and be a part of a very dynamic and collaborative Total Rewards team.


You will contribute by:


  • Responsible for program management of multiple Defined Contribution (DC), Defined Benefit (DB) plans, as well as the Group RRSP and Employee Share Purchase Plan (ESPP)
  • Develops and maintains partnerships to ensure Corus, its plan members, People Team Business Partners, and Labour Relations receive reliable, timely and highlevel customer service from pension providers in compliance with legislative and industry standards.
  • Acts as Recording Secretary for the Retirement Council, coordinating meetings, preparing agendas, and materials in conjunction with consultants and maintaining rigorous record keeping of all Retirement Council materials.
  • In conjunction with senior leaders and pension consultants, develops plan members communications as required under pension and tax legislation, such as enrollment opportunities, annual pension statements, plan member booklets, and benefit calculation packages.
  • Writes high quality business correspondence to plan members, consultants, and legislative parties
  • Maintains internal company intranet plan member content and collaborates with pension providers on external pension plan member sites.
  • Reviews and edits pension contracts and other plan documents language to provide feedback for changes, seeking consulting or management advice where needed.
  • Works closely with consultants overseeing pension plan accounting to ensure tight and accurate record keeping of pension budget, pension expenses and fees tracking to ensure services provided as agreed to, processing invoices for payment.
  • Leads pension audits, performing Excel analysis, to ensure high level of data integrity and issues prevention
  • Leads Dayforce HCM pension system set up configurations, contribution rates, interfaces, and processes
  • Leads the annual Pension Adjustments (PAs) analysis process with pension consultants and Corus Payroll team to ensure accurate calculations are reported on member's T4 taxation forms.
  • Collaborates with pension consultants to prepare and file regulatory requirements, such as Contribution Planners and Annual Information Returns (AIRs).
  • Develops, reviews, and updates Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), as needed.
  • Ensures rigorous recordkeeping of plan member digital and physical pension records.
  • Provides backup for Benefits Specialist and Total Rewards Coordinator as needed, and crosstrains them to back up Pension Specialist responsibilities.

Skills and experience you will bring:

  • Has a key understanding of Defined Benefit (DB) and Defined Contribution (DC) pension plan legislation and administration.
  • Takes ownership of pension activities including leading projects and meeting timelines and deliverables.
  • Possesses exceptional interpersonal, communication and business writing skills with the ability to communicate information professionally, clearly, and simply.
  • Works collaboratively with parties at all levels to achieve the goals, find alternative solutions, and seeks expert advice where warranted.
  • Displays highly developed prioritization, time management, project management and multitasking skills, while working well under pressure.
  • Demonstrates the ability to maintain high attention to detail for proofreading and auditing.
  • Displays strong technical skills with advanced Excel experience for performing data analysis (e.g. vlookup, IF statements, pivot tables, etc.)
  • Attainment or working towards Certified Benefits Specialist (CEBS) and/or Retirement Plans Associate (RPA) designations.
