Summer Writing Contract:
Grade 9 De-streamed Geography (up to 4 positions)

15 days to be completed by August 5, 2024

Successful applicants will be compensated at the Con-Ed Remedial Rate ($46.50/hour x 40 hours plus benefits)


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
An Ontario Teacher's Certificate of Qualification

A University Degree

Qualifications to teach in two divisions (junior/intermediate or intermediate/senior preferred)

Specialist in Geography or Honour Specialist in Geography (preferred) or Geography teaching qualification

District or system level experience in a Geography-related role (preferred)

Five or more years of Geography teaching experience (preferred)


KEY COMPETENCIES OF THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT

Successful applicants for curriculum writing team will have:
Geography content and pedagogical knowledge for teaching and leading;
knowledge of current Geography curriculum, Grades 8-9

a repertoire of effective evidence-informed instructional strategies to engage students in learning;
in-depth knowledge of assessment, evaluation and reporting;
experience using a variety of digital tools to support online instruction, assessment and student engagement;
an ability to align professional learning with system priorities;
experience in the design and facilitation of effective professional learning;
experience working in collaboration with colleagues;
excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills; and


a knowledge of the following documents:

The Ontario Curriculum, Grades 8 and 9: Geography (2023)

Growing Success - Assessment, Evaluation and Reporting in Ontario Schools (1-12);
Ontario Schools - Policy and Program Requirements (K-12);
School Effectiveness Framework - A support for school improvement and student success (K-12);

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT

The Geography writing team member will:
create a Scope and Sequence for Grade 9 Geography aligned with the new curriculum and incorporating Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Doing

Scope and Sequence must include authentic Indigenous voice and resources

create First 20 Days' resources to support educators to establish effective culturally-responsive instruction, assessment, and evaluation practices in multi-level classrooms

design professional learning for secondary educators related to the planning, implementation and assessment of the Ontario Ministry of Education's new Grade 9 Geography curriculum

build educator capacity related to the components of an effective Geography program, effective pedagogical practices and the implementation of gap closing and transition strategies for students who are experiencing difficulties with learning and/or engagement;
other responsibilities to be determined based on the emerging learning needs of the system
