The Research, Innovation and Policy Division provides research, policy and legislation support to the ministry, enabling the successful delivery of services to improve the lives of British Columbians.

The division leads the government on the Poverty Reduction Strategy, and aids in poverty reduction and disability initiatives across government.


The Reconsideration Officer is responsible for rendering final ministry decisions related to the denial, reduction or discontinuance of income assistance, disability assistance, qualification as a person with persistent multiple barriers, and supplements, under the Employment & Assistance Act and Regulation and the Employment & Assistance for Persons with Disabilities Act and Regulation.

The Reconsideration Officer is also responsible for rendering decisions related to the Child Care Subsidy Act and the Child Care Subsidy Regulation.


Job Requirements:


  • Degree in law, public administration, social sciences or related discipline; AND 1 year of related experience in all of the following:
  • Writing formal decisions.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Preferences may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Experience communicating complex issues in plain language.
  • Experience making decisions under the Employment & Assistance Act and Regulation and the Employment & Assistance for Persons with Disabilities Act and Regulation
