About Us:


The Court of King's Bench is the Superior Trial Court for the Province, hearing trials in civil and criminal matters and appeals from decisions of the Alberta Court of Justice.

The Judicial Assistant interacts with senior Court personnel as well as acting as a representative for assigned Justices in dealing with Court officials, external legal counsel and/or the public.

The Judicial Assistant receives and handles confidential and sensitive information and demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.

Support is provided in a highly professional manner with a high degree of autonomy, diplomacy and confidentiality.

Work is performed using strong organizational skills, unquestionable integrity, and a thorough knowledge of the paralegal discipline; excellent typing, shorthand and computer skills are essential.


This position holds key responsibility for the efficient operation of the Judicial Chambers in a professional, responsible and independent manner by providing a broad range of administrative support functions to the Judiciary.

There are five areas of responsibility for this position; provide a broad range of administrative support functions to the Judiciary, Case Management, preparation of Judgments, scheduling matters for the Judiciary and partner with the trial coordinator to ensure smooth and efficient administration of Judicial assignments.

Secondary to reporting to the assigned Justice, the Judicial Assistant reports administratively to the immediate supervisor.

Competencies for these positions include:

excellent communication and judgment, time management skills, attention to detail, punctuality, multi-tasking, ability to work independently and without supervision, conflict management, dependability, professionalism, diplomacy and a good working knowledge of law procedures and practices.


Qualifications:


Two-year diploma in legal administration (or a related field) and a minimum of one-year progressively responsible experience working as an Executive Assistant or Judicial/Legal Assistant.

The ability to communicate in French fluently (orally and in writing) and court experience are assets.

Travel to other court offices may be required.

Equivalencies:

Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Salary:

$2, $2,511.73 bi-weekly ($53, $65,556.00/year)


Notes:

We are hiring for a 12-months temporary position, located in Edmonton.

The hours of work for this position are Monday to Friday 8:15AM - 4:30PM, 36.25 hours a week.
