Home of the McMaster Marauders, McMaster University Athletics provides a wide range of sports and recreational activities to students, staff, faculty, alumni, and the greater community with the opportunity to pursue athletic excellence.

McMaster's Athletics department is home to various well-equipped sports facilities, including a comprehensive fitness center, indoor and outdoor sports fields, swimming pools, gymnasiums, tennis courts, and more.

McMaster University has a strong tradition of intercollegiate athletics and is home to several varsity sports teams that competed in various leagues.

Varsity teams at McMaster include basketball, soccer, football, volleyball, cross country, track and field, rugby, swimming, and many other OUA and club teams.

Job Summary:

Our department is looking for a Sports Information Officer to support McMaster Varsity Athletics.

The Sports Information Officer promotes McMaster varsity athletics to internal and external audiences and plays an essential role in meeting McMaster's varsity athletics media and reporting requirements to national and provincial sports team organizations.

Provides communications advice and assistance to the Athletics and Recreation Leadership team, varsity coaches, and student-athletes as well as corresponding with all media relations as it pertains to varsity athletics.


  • Coordinate game day sports information requirements, including preparation of press releases, background and statistical information, event and game day programs, arranging and overseeing photography.
  • Develop, coordinate and implement a comprehensive communications plan for McMaster Athletics that adheres to varsity athletics media and reporting best practices, as determined by national and provincial sports team organizations and consistent with McMaster policies and practices utilizing written word, website, social media and other tools.
  • Responsible for development of a social media strategy on behalf of McMaster Varsity Athletics, while adhering to a service framework in support of 31 varsity athletics programs.
  • Coordinate live statistics for a variety of sports, including but not limited to football, basketball, volleyball, soccer, and field hockey.
  • Work with the Athletics and Recreation Leadership team to promote varsity athletics activities.
  • Monitor the McMaster Athletics and Recreation website and social media outlets to ensure current accuracy of information and work to improve and enhance the web presence for Athletics.
  • Provide at end of each season a detailed report of all coverage obtained through various social media outlets and McMaster Athletics and Recreation website.
  • Develop content, design, edit, and maintain the McMaster Athletics website and social media sites.
  • Take the lead on all communications requirements for provincial and national championships in alignment with governing body policies.
  • Schedule and coordinate preseason photo shoots for teams, coaches and studentathletes, and maintain files for website, publications and distribution to media.
