This is an 8 month contract position based in Quebec City.

Your role
CBC is seeking a host based in Quebec City.
You will host the province wide morning show Quebec AM that is on air from 6am to 830am. You will conduct on air interviews Monday-Friday.
You are a motivated, bilingual self-starter. You cover stories in Quebec City and across the province that are of importance to English speaking communities.
An exceptional journalist and leader, you thrive in the fast-paced, high-pressure world of breaking news and current affairs. You have the ability to go live and "off script" at a moment's notice.

You are ready to contribute to the planning, design and organization of the program, propose program ideas, conduct interviews on and off-air and interact with program participants.

Your interviewing skills and knowledge of current events are at least as strong as your presentation skills.

You understand the diverse and changing population in Quebec and the importance of reflecting all our communities in our content.

You live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.

In this role, you will ensure that all CBC journalistic standards are met and that our stories are fair, balanced, accurate, thoughtful and immediate, and resonate with the communities we serve.


Tasks:


  • Stay abreast of news events in the areas covered by the program and maintain ties with different sources.
  • Do the research necessary for interviews and other program activities.
  • Write or adapt program scripts and conduct preinterviews as needed.
  • When appropriate, write up interviews for digital or social platforms
  • During production meetings, participate in choosing program content and determining program planning.
  • Carry out taped or live interviews. Perform basic editing tasks for radio.
  • Converse with program collaborators on air.
  • Participate in other programs. Occasionally host special programs.
  • Participate in community outreach on behalf of CBC.
  • Perform all other related tasks as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism or the equivalent.
  • Five years of onair experience or the equivalent.

  • Fluent in English.
  • Very good knowledge of French.
  • Extensive general knowledge.
  • Excellent knowledge of current affairs.
  • Good grasp of interview techniques.
  • Excellent diction and delivery.
  • Onair presence and ease.
  • Able to analyze, synthesize and think critically.
  • Able to discuss a topic clearly.
  • Able to work under pressure.
  • Leadership skills and the ability to work within a team.
