Position Summary


Reporting to and working in collaboration with the Manager of Athletics and Recreation, the Campus Recreation and Fitness Centre Coordinator plans, promotes, delivers, registers and evaluates a broad-based active recreation program that includes intramural, instructional, recreational, and extramural activities for the students and staff at Morningside and Downsview Campuses.

The incumbent oversees the operations of the Morningside Fitness Centre that features an exercise room & fitness studio, along with the Downsview Campus fitness room.

The development and monitoring of annual budgets and the hiring, training, and scheduling of fitness attendants and fitness instructors are responsibilities of the incumbent.


Responsibilities:


  • Develops recreational programs that have mass appeal, promote personal health / wellness and encourage social interaction between students and staff. Activities
  • Reflect the recreational interests of a diverse student population. Hire, train and assign work to workstudy students, games officials, and sports conveners
  • Orient and train fitness instructors and personal trainers
  • Oversee staff schedules, client registration and payments
  • Develop and monitor requirements for annual budget
  • Purchase equipment and maintain inventory control of sports equipment
  • Ensure proper maintenance of gym and equipment
  • Creates schedules and provides weekly updates for intramural leagues /
  • Tournament statistics on the Athletics and Recreation website Report on progress (such as annual participation statistics) and prepares semester reports detailing student participation rates
  • Coordinates the facility bookings and contracts, schedule activity times and promote these opportunities to the students.
  • Updates policy & procedure and communicate to impacted employees, students and participants
  • Coordinates partnership with U of T Scarborough for student intramurals and Toronto Pan Am Centre access
  • Assists in securing physical activity opportunities at The Hanger, Hoop Dome, Scotiabank Pond and other area recreational facilities for the Centennial students attending the Downsview Campus. This includes coordinating the facility bookings/contracts along with scheduling and promoting these opportunities to the students.
  • Provides updates on Morningside and Downsview activities to the SIO for posting to the Department web site.

Qualifications/Experience:


  • Minimum three (3) year diploma/degree in Sport Management, Recreation Facilities, Leisure Studies, Physical Education/Kinesiology or equivalent
  • Minimum three (3) years' experience organizing and delivering sport league/recreational tournaments
  • Minimum three (3) years practical experience in the operation of a recreation facility
  • Current First Aid, CPR and AED training certification required
  • Broad based knowledge of sport rules and apparatus set up requirements
  • Experience in the operation of sport camp and/or work with at risk youth an asset
  • Experience using recreation management software (i.e., Innosoft Fusion) an asset
  • Experience successfully working with and coordinating event volunteers
  • Excellent written and oral/verbal
