Responsibilities:
PRIMARY PURPOSE
Provides a variety of analysis and reports to support Safety and Occupational Health Initiatives and identify root cause/early warning indicators for safety related metrics.
While providing employer, operational and passenger safety analysis and support, promotes a safety culture through recommendations for corporate and department-specific safety targets and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Develops and maintains database of sensitive safety and confidential workplace violence and injury statistics as well as WSBC reports to provide end-to-end analytics (including KPI design, data structure and visualization) and support the measurement of various Safety, Environment, Emergency Management, and Occupational Health initiatives, using Business Intelligence systems such as PowerBI, SQL Server, FME, and Tableau.
Investigates and analyzes safety statistics and underlying causes and trends of injuries and incidents to improve safety performance, using statistical analysis and data sources.
Prepares reports and dashboards on key performance indicators and safety measures intended for various levels of management at BCRTC and BCRTC & TransLink Boards of Directors.
Produces ad hoc reports and analyses for targeted areas in response to requests from media, Freedom of Information requests, Executive team, BCRTC management and supervisors, and Safety committees.
Collaborates with relevant stakeholders to explore current datasets and structure and develop and maintain business reporting requirements; provide user testing where appropriate.
Actively participates in various committees and working groups, including but not limited to: Data Steward Committee, Injury and Illness Committee, Passenger Injury Task Force, BCRTC Security Committee, and the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee.
Actively participates in activities related to COR certification and supports the department as required.
Assists Performance Reporting team on other ad hoc reports, presentations and other tasks.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
The requirements for this job are acquired through a Bachelor's degree (Commerce, Business Administration, Statistics or a related field of study), or course work in health and safety, accident causation, trending, and analysis plus four (4) years of related experience preferably in the field of Occupational Health and Safety or insurance in a safety regulatory capacity.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Solid knowledge of concepts, principles, practices and techniques pertaining to business intelligence functions (including but not limited to: process improvement, data mining, data gathering, data quality assessments, reporting, data governance, data stewardship, reporting and data visualization).
Excellent knowledge of office software including word processing, spreadsheet, and data management systems, as well as excellent knowledge of BI reporting tools, concepts, and approaches.
Strong statistical, analytical, problem solving and judgement skills to be able to interpret data and identify, diagnose, and resolve KPI related issues.
