Position Summary:


The main responsibility of this position is the support of the tax technology, data analytics and reporting for the entire tax department as well as all projects and initiatives in which the tax department is involved.


  • Responsible for the support, maintenance, execution and creation of data reports and processes relevant to taxes, over very large volumes of complex data (data analytics), to build the appropriate support for any governmental audit and for tax special projects.
  • Strongly collaborate with the data management and analytics group of Air Canada to define and explain tax business and technical requirements for reporting and analysis
  • From a tax perspective, support implementation of initiatives to ensure that all data generated by business systems throughout the organization meet the requirements of the various tax laws and regulations. Responsible as well for any business process reengineering involving tax implications to ensure continuous compliance with laws and regulations.

Role and Responsibilities:


  • Contribute to the Tax department digitalization strategy, by supporting the team in the migration to new data platforms and tools, by increasing data processes automation and quality assurance.
  • Responsible for running monthly production cycle, monthly and Adhoc reports development, by resolving technical issues related to monthly production cycle, by providing data analysis and technical support Tax teams.
  • Assist with research and evaluation of new data sources & systems within Air Canada various business units and systems to address Tax department data needs and processes.
  • Responsible for monitoring and executing activities with the IT group and Business owners of systems & softwares (such as PeopleSoft, Navitaire, DSS, PAICE, I6, ALTEA, Ariba, AR Page, Einvoicing, Ereporting, Sabre Caterlink, TRAX, Azure Enterprise Data Warehouse, DevOPs etc.), to evaluate and ensure that taxes are properly integrated & reflected in these systems/software, to collaborate continuously on any new system implementation, modification and testing, including UAT testing.
  • Responsible for assisting in the development and documentation of new data processes, reports, and visualizations as well as the maintenance, improvement, and execution of existing ones and IT support to the Tax team.
  • Work closely with colleagues within the Tax Department to determine data requirements, to ensure a sound and robust process for the extraction and manipulation of data and images for reporting and/or audit purposes, including tax recovery initiatives.
  • Responsible for support implementation of AC governance policies in Tax department.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in either management of information system/technology, computer science, math and statistics or other related quantitative fields
  • Over 3 years of professional experience in BI, Analytics and IT and other related fields
  • Advanced level of computer skills, including experience with SQL, Snowflake, power BI and Azure Data Lake, tools and ecosystems
  • Strong knowledge and experience in manipulation, validation and analysis of large and complex data sets using best practices methods and tools accepted in the industry
  • Strong knowledge of relational database framework and at least one Database Management System (Microsoft SQL-Server, Teradata, Oracle) is a prerequisite
  • Strong experience with at least one database query tool (Teradata SQL-Assistant, Oracle SQL-Developer, Microsoft SQL-Server Management Studio, Microsoft Access);
  • Experience with Access, ACL, IDEA, SAS or other database software/languages is a strong asset
Knowledge of Python and Spark is a strong asset

  • Knowledge and experience with Azure DevOps
  • Knowledge of Snowflake is a strong asset
  • Knowledge of ETL tools is a strong asset
  • Basic knowledge of HTML and Java script for SharePoint is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Canadian and provincial commodity tax legislation (e.g., GST/HST, QST, PST, Excise Tax and Fuel Tax) is an asset.
  • Ability to understand and relate required analysis to business implications
  • Proven organizational skills and ability to multitask.
  • Selfstarter with strong interpersonal skills and ability to take initiative
  • Ability to think critically and innovatively.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to perform under pressure.
  • Comfortable working in an environment that requires solving complex, openended problems with mínimal guidance.
