Position Summary:


The Food Service Supervisor supports the Food Service Manager (FSM) in the overall planning, management, monitoring and delivery of optimal resident experience within all legislative and Salvation Army standards and requirements.

The Food Services Supervisor will back up the FSM in their absence.

Accountabilities

1. Food Service

  • Provides input to the FSM on the development and planning of seasonal menus.
  • Complete food services documentation including production sheets, recipes and ordering templates when requested by FSM.
  • Completes online twice weekly food orders under the direction of FSM.
  • Attends the Resident Food Committee meetings when requested by FSM; reports outcomes of meetings to FSM.
  • Ensures staff follow all meal prep and recipe guidelines
  • Ensure kitchen and services are cleaned as per schedule
  • Performs food handling, serving and cooking duties when required
  • Supports the FSM in the provision of requisitioned supplies and catered events
  • Conducts meal service audits on different home units following the audit calendar
  • Completes weekly temperature audits

2. Resident Care

  • When required by FSM, meet with resident and/or families to determine resident's food preferences and needs; ensures outcomes are provided to FSM for action.
  • When required support the FSM in responding to residents' requests for specific food items
  • Forwards resident complaints to FSM

3. Human Resources

  • Support FSM in recruiting, interviewing, orienting and training new staff
  • Provide on the spot coaching to food services staff as required. Escalate performance issues to FSM for next steps
  • Ensure documentation of coaching conversations are maintained and shared with the FSM
  • Provide feedback to FSM on performance of staff during their first 90 days
  • As required provides the provision of inservice training for dietary staff
  • Support the FSM in identifying and addressing employee attendance issues
  • Models positive working relationships with the management, and coworkers adhering to the Respect in the Workplace policy
  • Actively participates in the annual educational program for the food service department

4. Regulatory Compliance

  • Fosters good working relationships with relevant persons within the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MOHLTC) and Ottawa Public Health
  • Understands and applies all relevant components of MOHLTC, public health and any related legislation and regulated processes as they applies to the Dietary department
  • Performs assigned regulatory audits to ensure compliance is being met.

5. Health and Safety

  • Ensures teamfollows departmental policies and procedures or safe usage guidelines for all equipment operation, cleaning and storage.
  • Ensures staff and self adhere and uphold all IPAC requirements
  • Demonstrates understanding of, and compliance with, workers' responsibilities under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, WSIB policy and Grace Manor's Health and Safety plans, policies and procedures
  • Ensures team actively participates in fire and emergency procedures drill
  • Actively promotes a culture of safety for both residents and employees by participating in safety education and training, by reporting incidents or unsafe situations to his/her supervisor, and by complying with the MHC's safe work procedures.

6. Administration

  • Provide input to FSM in the develop, implement, review, and adjust food services policies and procedures as needed or as required
  • Complete and submit reports as required

The Education and expertise that makes you outstanding:

  • Naturally you already possess a Diploma in Food Service Management or Food Nutrition Management, you are a member in good standing with the Canadian Society of Nutrition management, or working towards the above.
**Upon hire you will be asked to provide a clear police check for the vulnerable sector and evidence of a clear / negative TB test.
