GCPE leads and coordinates government communications through its three divisions:
Communications Operations, Strategic Communications, and Corporate Priorities.


The Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions is a fast-paced communications shop with a wide variety of both proactive and reactive communications opportunities.


The position manages the day-to-day operations of a team of communications professionals, guiding the development and implementation of ministry-specific communications plans; effective and quick-response issues management strategies; media relations; event planning and management; and digital and online services.


Job Requirements:


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field such as journalism, public relations, political science, writing, English, or a communicationsrelated discipline
    AND 5 years of related work experience* in progressively more responsible communications positions;
    OR:
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and work experience may be considered.
  • Related work experience includes a combination of the followin

g:

  • Experience in stakeholder and partner engagement and media or public relations.
  • Experience in issues management and communications strategy planning.
  • Experience in professional writing/communications product development (e

g:
engagement and communication plans, new releases, backgrounders; publication content; speech writing; notes and strategies for legislative procedures; web and digital content, etc.).

  • Experience managing diverse workloads proactively, effectively, independently and under pressure.
  • Experience managing complex files and projects.
  • Experience supervising staff and leading a team.

Preference may be given to those with:

  • Experience with government and parliamentary procedures.
  • Experience working in reactive communications (e.g. crisis communications, stakeholder communications, media relations, issues management, social community management, etc.).
  • Experience working in proactive communications (e.g. event planning, capital announcements, social media, strategic communications planning, etc.).
Proviso

  • Understand and commit to a diverse and inclusive workplace.
  • Work outside of standard business hours (including statutory holidays and weekends).
  • Work oncall and extended hours during emergency activations, including operational deployments across the province.
