Job Summary:


The Wintegration After-School Program engages children in after-school activities three days per week (currently Monday, Tuesday and Friday) at the program location in central Etobicoke.

Programming incorporates moderate to vigorous physical activity (a minimum of 60 minutes every day) and a daily healthy snack. In addition, the program includes education on food and nutrition, wellness and personal health, and support for academic achievement. The Youth Program Worker is responsible for planning, implementing and reporting on the program.

Maintaining positive relationships with local partners and multicultural participants is key to project success. All agency employees are expected to support each other and to collaborate on agency-wide events.


Duties:


  • Outreach and organize registration of children;
  • Plan and prepare activities and promotional material, and publicize events;
  • Development, oversight and implementation of a range of afterschool activities focused on physical activity, nutrition and homeworkhelp;
  • Coordinate volunteers and students placements;
  • Complete monthly reports and maintain program statistics.

Required Work Capacities:


  • Physical demands: sitting at a desk for computer work (10% of the workday) and meetings; lifting (files, laptop, and program supplies up to 5 kg); leading moderate to vigorous physical activities
  • Nonphysical demands: occasional deadlines; variety of tasks
  • Social/emotional demands: teamwork; relationship/networkbuilding; exposure to emotional situations; working closely with the public, with clients and with colleagues
  • Cognitive/mental demands: attention to detail; selfsupervision/autonomy; multitasking; organizational ability/time management, adaptability, sound judgement, effective written communication

Qualifications:


  • Membership in the College of Early Childhood Educators or Ontario Teachers College, or a diploma or postsecondary degree in Child and Youth Care, or in Recreation and Leisure Services; or a postsecondary degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or kinesiology with a focus/experience working with children age 4 to 1
  • One year experience in delivering children's programs
  • Training in WHMS, Safe Food Handling, and/or High Five "Principles of Healthy Child Development" is an asset
  • Training and experience in conflict resolution is an asset
  • Training and experience in integrating physical activity in children's programs, and adapting physical activity opportunities to include children and youth at all levels of athletic availability and those with physical, sensory or intellectual disability, are strong assets
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English; proficiency in Somali language is an asset
  • Competency in MS Office, and using digital outreach tools and social media (i.e. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter)
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening within the past six months
  • Must be authorized to work in Canada
