Temporary Part Time Community Ministry Worker - Greater Sudbury, Canada - The Salvation Army

The Community Ministry Worker provides support to the food bank program provided by The Salvation Army Sudbury Community and Family Services.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
General
- Assist with conducting intake services, client assessment to determine immediate needs and supports required by the client.
- Refers clients to Director of Community & Family Services or Corps Officer for pastoral assistance.
- Assist other food bank staff with pickups of food/toy donations from community donors.
- Aid with processing, unloading, documenting, sorting, reorganizing, and restocking food and toy donations for the Family Services program and assist with preparing donated items for distribution.
- Maintain food bank stock, cleanliness, tidiness, and organization of food bank area; assist with food drives as needed.
- Arrange for the proper disposal of items received but not usable in the food bank.
- Assist with registering children and youth for The Salvation Army provincial camping programs.
Health and Safety
- Adherence to all health and safety standards.
- Assist with ensuring that the Food Bank is maintained in organization, appearance, maintenance, cleanliness, and safety as recommended by Public Health etc.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- This is a temporary parttime position based on 30 hours per week for 9 weeks.
- The anticipated start date is June 17, 202
- The Supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule.
- Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification.
- This job requires reaching, bending, and stooping frequently, working in a standing position for long periods of time.
- The working environment is typically in the office, food bank in generally agreeable conditions.
- Ability to lift/move up to 30 lbs. (4.5kg).
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Submit as required a Police Record Check (vulnerable sector check) that is acceptable to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion.
- This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria:
- aged 15 to 30 years at the beginning of the employment period;
- holds a valid Social Insurance Number; and,
- be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
- International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.
- An ongoing condition of employment is the ability to maintain immigration status to legally remain and work in Canada which is supported by valid immigration documents.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Completion of a minimum of grade ten (10).
- Safe Food Handling and First Aid/CPR Certifications are an asset,
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training preferred.
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Minimum of three (3) months of prior related experience working and/or volunteering in communitybased programs, including experience working with multibarriered persons.
