Job Summary


The Speech-Language Pathologist/Clinical Coordinator coordinates clinical services for the First Words Preschool Speech and Language Program (Ottawa Team) and provides leadership to clinicians across various program sites.

The Speech-Language Pathologist/Clinical Coordinator offers speech and language services to children from birth until eligibility for junior kindergarten.

Job Specific Responsibilities

  • Provide speech and language services, including assessment and treatment from birth until eligibility to junior kindergarten.
  • Maintain daytoday staff assignments and reassign responsibilities and offices.
  • Working with the Program Manager, develop/update clinical policies and procedures for the program.
  • Working with the Program Manager and First Words staff, review/revise the service delivery model to reflect best practices, funder benchmarking, current research and community needs.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Monitor wait lists for services and participate in activities to collect service data both at the Ministry level and within the program.
  • Review all incoming transfers from other PSLs and CTC to recommend the appropriate service.
  • Act as a key point person for intake and booking questions from the centralized intake team (Access Team) and PSC responsible for booking initial assessments.
  • Working with the Program Manager, develop agendas and chair bimonthly huddles.
  • Participate at twice yearly First Words Community Partner Meeting.
  • Create agenda for and chair twice yearly Transition to School.
  • Provide leadership and consultation to team members on administrative procedures and referral, clinical or statistical questions.
  • Working with Managers at PQ and CHEO, supports all clinical staff and provides input for appraisals
  • Support onboarding new staff by creating an orientation schedule, providing mentorship (or assigning a mentor) and scheduling recurring touch points during the first three months.
  • Support and foster excellence in professional practice for clinicians.
  • Working with the Program Manager, organize staff development activities as needed.
  • Work with HCD-ISCIS Team Lead to audit cleanup lists and perform quality assurance monitoring on clinician data entry through EPIC.
  • Support staff to create IT/IS Helpdesk tickets.
  • Collaborate with the Team Lead of Renfrew County to ensure consistency across both regions.
  • Work with universities and colleges to organize student placements.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:


  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology and minimum 5 years of clinical experience (essential)
  • Experience working with the preschool population (essential)
  • Hanen It Takes Two to Talk certification (essential)
  • Hanen Target Word and More Than Words certification (asset)
  • Current CASLPO registration (essential)
  • 2 years of demonstrated leadership skills (essential)
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with a variety of people and agencies (essential)
  • Completion of the Speech and Stuttering Institute (SSI) motor speech and fluency training (preferred)
  • Experience leading quality improvement initiatives within a healthcare setting (preferred)
  • Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification (preferred)
  • Fluency in English and French (preferred)
  • High level of proficiency in using EPIC software (preferred)
  • Valid driver's licence and access to a vehicle required (required)
