Salary Range:
SP3, Level 5, $88,792- $110,990 per year.

The final compensation for this position will be determined based on individual factors, including education, qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

Groundwater Modeller - Hybrid

The Opportunity


The Groundwater Modeller will be part of a 2-year research project aimed at assessing historic patterns and future trends of anthropogenic and climate impacts on shallow groundwater quality in central and southern Alberta.


You will have the opportunity to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of geochemists, hydrogeologists, and geologists within the government, university, and water stewardship organizations.


What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Compile, organize and manage large, diverse datasets of spatial and temporal information such as climate, land use, hydrological, geological, groundwater chemistry, and water well data.
  • Implements geostatistical and data science methods to clean raw data, perform geospatial data analysis, data conversion, data management, and automated map and table reports.-
  • Develop and calibrate a regional-scale ,000 km2), integrated groundwater-surface water model in central and southern Alberta.
  • Design scenarios and analyze model results to assess the impacts of hydrological change on groundwater and surface water quality.
  • Accountable for delivering research results on key projects including the production, delivery and dissemination of independent datasets, maps, reports and/or other advanced hydrogeology knowledge products.

What we're looking for in you:

  • M.Sc. or Ph.
D.

in either hydrogeology or other related education(e.g., water resources engineering, geological/civil engineering, hydrology).- Membership or eligibility with The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) is preferred.- 5-7 years of progressive experience in working with integrated (groundwater - surface water) numerical flow transport modelling. Experience with HydroGeoSphere and using data science or data analytics on large datasets is considered an asset.- Experience and knowledge of the hydrogeology and geology of central and southern Alberta.- Capability to create, process, manipulate, analyze, and visualize geospatial data sets.- Involvement in previous projects evaluating climate and land-use change on the hydrological cycle is considered an asset.- Be self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with multiple stakeholders, both internal and external.
