***A self-motivated independent worker, the PAC summer Landscape Assistant is responsible for ensuring the outside of the PAC grounds are maintained in a manner that adds to the beautification of the downtown and ensures that the outdoor spaces around the PAC are welcoming. Keeping the backyard clean of debris and weeded, ensuring that the beds are weeded and mulched, keeping trees and shrubs pruned and helping set up outdoor spaces for events are all activities by which the groundskeeper supports the work of the PAC and our community.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Required to ensure that the outdoor event and greenspaces are properly maintained to optimize the visual and environmental health of the outdoor spaces
  • Duties include but are not limited to: raking, weeding, mulching, pruning, irrigating, seeding, and planting as required for all beds and greenspaces
  • Weed, overseed and irrigate the large grass events space
  • Keeping the area free of debris and ensuring garbage bins are maintained
  • Coordinating with stakeholders (PAC Staff, Brock University, City of St.
Catharines and clients) the needs of the outdoor event spaces

  • Preparation and execution/installation of events nontechnical requirements such as fencing/barricades, sanitation stations, painting / lining physical distancing pods, coordinating the delivery and placement of chairs, portable washrooms, tents or other items as required for the safe execution of outdoor events
  • Repairs to existing rockscapes and installing additional paths or hardscapes as required
  • Manage other similar or related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • College Diploma or a current student enrolled in Horticulture, Landscaping or related program or equivalent in work experience
  • 1 season previous experience working in the field of landscaping Must be physically able to lift 30 kilograms, stand for long periods of time, and operate various landscaping/gardening equipment
  • Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision
  • Demonstrable knowledge of plant material and pruning requirements
  • Ability to work all shifts including evenings and weekends
  • A demonstrated commitment to enhancing a safety culture through adhering to all safety guidelines with the goal of achieving a healthy and safe operation.
  • Valid First Aid / CPR C Certification considered an asset
  • This position is funded in part by the Canada Summer Jobs program.

To be eligible, youth must:

- _be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment*_
- _be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment** and,_
- _have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations_
- *The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period._
- **International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible. As the objective of the Canada Summer Jobs program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student's time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market._

ABOUT THE PAC


Opening our doors in 2015, the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre (the PAC) is a 95,000 square foot arts and culture hub located in downtown St.

Catharines, Ontario, serving the Greater Niagara region.

The centre features 4 separate venues under one roof as well as an outdoor performance space, and is supported by a team of 25 full-time, and 40 part-time staff and over 100 volunteers.

Events showcase music, dance, theatre, film, comedy, speakers, meetings, and community gatherings, ranging from person capacity.

Built as part of a downtown revitalization and cultural renaissance plan, the PAC has become a home to local arts groups and organizations throughout the Niagara region.
