Description
This is an independent position for a small kitchen at our 8-bed hospice.- We are looking for someone to work 2 days a week (Thursday and Sunday 8am 2pm).
- The Cook plans, prepares and cooks a variety of food items and baked goods (e.g. cookies), according to FoodSafe standards, for patients and staff in the hospice.
- Maintains a clean, stocked kitchen and supply area. Works closely with other staff, volunteers and families.
PRIMARY ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES, include but are not limited to:
- Plans cooking schedule to minimize time between completion and serving.
- Defrosts and prepares food in advance; cooks and prepares food items (e.g. soups, sauces, salads, fish, poultry, meats, desserts, cookies); and prepares various food items for freezing to be used at a later date.
- Ensures food is prepared according to preparation guidelines and FoodSafe standards as well as any dietary restrictions for patients/staff.
- Checks food and other kitchen/cooking supplies on hand and restocks the kitchen with necessary daytoday supplies.
- Ensures an established rotation of food in storage and use of leftovers to minimize spoilage and waste.
- Ensures kitchen, dining and storage areas, as well as machines and equipment are clean and free from hazards (e.g. wet floors, broken glass, sharp objects, etc), as required.
- Interacts with patients and families to discuss special dietary requirements, allergy alerts and any food prep considerations.
- Ensures safety practices and procedures are adhered to.
- Assumes other related duties as assigned.
