Reporting to the Director, Research Services, the Officer, Research Projects supports faculty researchers in all "post-award" management activities, including: developing research program budgets, which may span several different grant accounts; assisting with implementation of internal policies and systems such as those of Purchasing and Human Resources; and assisting in the tracking of key milestones and reporting deadlines.


Summary of Responsibilities:


  • Provide guidance and support to faculty researchers with staffing and purchasing needs, ensuring correct procedures are followed, checking for compliance with granting agency and University policies and practices, and coordinating workflows between internal departments including the Finance and People & Culture Offices.
  • Provide support to faculty researchers in the oversight of their research project budgets, taking a portfolio and holistic approach by monitoring expenses which may be funded through several grants with varying expense eligibility and timelines
  • Work closely with Finance to ensure that appropriate budgeting and expense processes are followed
  • Organize and hold regularly scheduled meetings with funded researchers to ensure their needs are being met; conducting ongoing checkins as necessary
  • Assist researchers with the tracking of key milestones and reporting deadlines associated with their funded research projects
  • Assist researchers with internal policies and systems, including Purchasing, Human Resources, Colleague, Romeo, room bookings, etc.
  • Identify, problem solve, and work to remove barriers to successful project completion, with emphasis on resolving issues and facilitating collaborative relationships on assigned projects across activities, collaborators, funding agencies and external stakeholders
  • Support the Director in other related tasks and special projects contributing to the successful operation of the Research Office

Qualifications:


  • University degree or equivalent, with a minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience, preferably in a postsecondary environment
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification and previous research experience will be considered assets
  • Demonstrated financial administration skills
  • Proven project management and organizational abilities, attention to detail, and initiative
  • Demonstrated problemsolving skills, judgement and discretion in dealing with confidential or sensitive matters
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously and meet critical deadlines; work well with high volume, pressure, and changing priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work independently as well as participate collaboratively in a team environment
  • Demonstrated experience transferring knowledge using different mediums that take into account multiple learning styles
  • Excellent technical computing skills as they relate to research management and research practice, including the ability to create accessible documents and forms and manage Excel spreadsheets
  • Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy while working with people both within and outside of the University
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of equity and diversity, and experience promoting a respectful work and learning environment for students, staff and faculty

Compensation:
OPSEU Unit 1, Appendix A, Grade A5; $34.64 to $45.53 per hour


Hours of Work:
Monday to Friday, for a total of 35 hours per week. This temporary contract is expected to continue until
August 31, 2023, with the possibility of an extension.
