Location


This role will require in-person work at various locations including North and South Campus Edmonton, Campus Saint-Jean, Enterprise Square, Augustana Camrose, and other locations around the Edmonton area.

Position


The Vehicle Operators in Distribution Operations perform a variety of delivery procedures and operate some of the largest vehicles in the University's fleet.

Incumbents in these positions are required to maintain a high level of campus knowledge in order for Distribution Operations to meet its operational objectives.

Incumbents respond to inquiries and initiate actions to resolve problems as they arise.


Vehicle Operators are responsible for the cargo they carry, from the time they load it onto their vehicles until it is delivered to the destination.

They are responsible for the transportation of dangerous goods to and from departments/faculty units and operate various types of vehicles (mini/commercial vans, 3- and 5-ton trucks, one ton cube vans).

In addition, they operate various pieces of equipment that expedite loading and unloading of cargo.

Intense concentration is required of Vehicle operators as they drive vehicles in areas that are congested with staff and students at all times.


Duties

  • Inspect vehicles prior to departing the warehouse.
  • Sort, load, pickup, and deliver mail parcels, packages, courier documents, cylinders, crates of all sizes, new and surplus equipment, tack boards, tables, and chairs to and from customers both on and off campus.
  • Sort and meter mail.
  • Obtain signatures, scanning barcoded deliveries in order to confirm and verify that the correct package was delivered intact to the correct destination within a reasonable period of time.
  • Communicate with fellow employees to ensure work is done safely and expeditiously including reporting all safety incidents and nearmisses immediately.
  • Prioritize daily workload assigned by either the dispatcher or supervisor to best utilize time and adjusts schedules to best fit campus requirements.
  • Ensure that Transportation of Dangerous Goods regulations are followed when dealing with inbound or outbound shipments of dangerous goods including placarding appropriately to alert the public of the potential danger posed by the cargo.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Grade 1
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license including Defensive Driving Training
