Position Objective and Responsibilities
The goal of the Gladue Aftercare Worker is to improve the effectiveness of Gladue principles as applied in the justice system, by assisting Indigenous individuals to fulfill the sentencing recommendations in their Gladue letters or reports.
The Gladue Aftercare Worker will work with urban Indigenous adults and youth who had a Gladue letter or report submitted to the court at any time in the past, or who are awaiting a Gladue letter or report that has been commissioned on their behalf.
The Gladue Aftercare Worker will work closely with the Indigenous Court Worker and the larger intervention team to provide direct support, advocacy and appropriate referrals, including advocacy for educating justice stakeholders regarding Gladue principles.
All NFC staff will collaborate to ensure the needs of the NFC are met and that planned NFC social and recreational activities are effectively and efficiently delivered.
Qualifications:
- Education in a relevant postsecondary program (ie. Community and Justice, Social Service Work and/or Indigenous Studies);
- Minimum of 2 years work experience in the community and justice field, preferably for an Indigenous organization is an asset; OR combination of education and experience deemed acceptable by the Hiring Committee is an asset
- Working knowledge of court procedures and legal terminology;
- Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with an understanding of the impacts of trauma;
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships with external agencies and justice stakeholders;
- Ability to work within the established policies and procedures of the NFC organization;
- Must have the ability to work independently and with a team, with mínimal supervision;
- Must have a valid driver's license and be willing to travel when required;
- Good organizational and administrative skills;
- Excellent report writing skills;
- Indigenous heritage a preference; (ref: Aboriginal Employment Preference Policy);
- A satisfactory Criminal Reference Check (CPIC) with a Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) will be a condition of the employment offer; and
- Must be fully vaccinated (COVID19)
Salary:
$ 47,000.00 annually (with a 6-month probation)
Benefits:
Health care spending account, 2 weeks paid vacation, 10 days of
paid sick time.
Schedule: 8:30-4:30 Monday to Friday with
evenings and weekends as needed
