INTM :
The Moving Image Production, Lab
(2 sections)
- (September 6, December 6, 2023; Monday, 12:50PM - 2:50PM; Tuesday, 9:30AM - 11:30AM; In-Person Delivery)_


COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Students are introduced to the techniques of production and post-production for moving image art, from concept to the final film/video work.

The course focus on artists' film and video works, from the history of the moving image to developing an understanding of the basic necessary vocabulary.

Students are introduced to basic DSLR image capturing, lighting setups, audio recording along with post-production skill sets in non-linear editing techniques.

Lectures, screenings, field trips, discussion and critique augment hands-on instruction in production and post-production techniques.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conduct separately scheduled lab; support students in their learning through individual or small group instruction and/or assisting with assignments; meet regularly with the faculty; work with faculty and other academic staff in support of the University's educational goals and objectives; participate in the provision of a safe and secure environment for all members of the University community and its facilities.


  • Video Production_
  • Camera Operation: Knowledgeable about different camera types, settings, and the ability to teach students proper camera techniques.
  • Shot Composition: Understanding of visual storytelling and the ability to create compelling compositions within the frame.
  • Lighting: Proficient in setting up and controlling lighting to achieve desired moods and visual effects.
  • Audio Recording: Familiarity with recording highquality audio on set and using microphones effectively.
  • Picture and Sound Editing_
  • Video Editing Software: Proficient in using industrystandard video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro).
  • Sound Editing Software: Familiarity with sound editing tools (e.g., Audition, Pro Tools) for enhancing audio quality.
  • Colour Correction/Grading: Knowledge of colour correction techniques to achieve the desired visual aesthetics.
  • Audio Mixing: Ability to mix audio elements (dialogue, music, sound effects) for optimal sound quality.
  • Editing Workflow: Understanding of efficient editing workflows and the ability to teach students the editing process.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Teaching Assistants are hired annually on a per-course basis with fixed-term annual contracts renewable to a maximum of 3 years.


HOURS OF WORK:
Hours per week are based on enrollment.


COMPENSATION:
$33.78 per hour 6% in lieu of benefits plus vacation pay, as applicable, per the provisions of the Employment Standards Act.
