Job Summary
The Bridgeperson and Truck Driver is responsible for contributing to Bridges and Structures.

The role assists with the replacement or repair of worn or broken components, fabrication and the erection of new components.

The role works with timber, concrete and steel railway structures, including bridges and culverts.


Major Responsibilities

  • Fabricate, assemble, and build timber, concrete and steel railway bridge components
  • Use various common and specialized hand and power tools
  • Prepare and carry out minor maintenance of tools for assigned work
  • Remove and replace defective bridge, culvert, and other structural components
  • Load, unload, sort, shovel, and distribute various materials
  • Cleanup of materials after work is completed
  • Operate Hirail boom trucks to load, transport, and unload bridge, as well as culvert material on road and rail

Working Conditions

  • The role is performed in an outdoor environment in various types of weather conditions and is a safetysensitive environment with heavy moving equipment and noisy surroundings
  • The role must be capable of working in various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • The role requires frequent travel (80%) that occasionally requires work away from home for extended periods to Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario
  • The role requires the ability to lift from 50 to 85 lbs as well as to climb and work at height using fall protection equipment

Requirements:


  • Experience in structural environments
  • Experience in physical labour, including lifting and occasional heavy lifting
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Attend, pass, and maintain applicable training such as timber trestle, crane, Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR), Track Inspection Guidelines (TIG), National Safety Code (NSC), and steel bridge
  • Class 3 Drivers' Licence with air endorsement or equivalent in the province of residence
  • Ability to read and understand detailed drawings and sketches for various types of repair work and new construction
  • Ability to follow strict guidelines concerning safe work practices
  • Knowledge of cleaning, fabrication, installation, repairs, and maintenance of steel and concrete structures, as well as culverts
  • Any experience/education/skills/knowledge for these above would be considered as an asset

Training
The position is required to attend classroom and on-the-job training that CN offers.

  • This position is a unionized position. As such, pay and benefits are governed by the applicable collective agreement_._
