Education:
- Undergraduate degree from a recognized institution, preferably Western University
- Masters degree is preferred
Experience:
- 4 years' experience working in Undergraduate Admissions
- 2 years' supervisory experience, preferably in a unionized environment
- 2 years' experience working with PeopleSoft Higher Education or equivalent system
- Experience in student recruitment, admissions or counseling services is preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Leadership and management skills with a track record of building and leading a team of professional, high performing staff
- Lead groups of people through persuasion and influence including those who may be disconnected geographically or in general mandate
- Ability to analyze and synthesize sizable amounts of detail/data with accuracy and speed
- Knowledge of secondary and postsecondary education systems throughout Canada and internationally would be an asset
- Familiarity with best practices for assessing, developing and implementing new business processes and procedures
- Familiarity with human resources principles and practices
- Possesses a reputation for resourcefulness with a strong sense of accountability and initiative
- Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage activities for both self and others effectively
- Ability to work well under pressure and handle conflicting priorities in a fastpaced environment with frequent interruptions
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and confidence dealing with all levels of an organization
- Demonstrated ability to understand and communicate complex ideas orally or in writing, to understand customer needs and expectations and to handle enquiries and resolve issues in a professional and timely manner
- Demonstrated negotiation, refined interpersonal and relationship building skills
- Professional manner, tact, diplomacy and discretion in dealing with students, parents, guidance counselors and colleagues including senior management
- Judgment, analytical and problemsolving skills with a consultative and collaborative approach to address issues and opportunities
- Strong record of teamwork with the motivation and ability to work independently with little supervision
- Strong cognitive skills including problem analysis, decisionmaking, financial, and quantitative analysis
- Critical thinking and discernment to assess and scope areas for improvement and an ability to offer creative solutions
- Intermediate computer skills (including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) with the ability to stay abreast of new technologies
- Ability to work within a flexible schedule to accommodate the department's events and activities outside of regular business hours with the ability to travel on occasion
- Working knowledge of Ministry of Colleges and Universities strategies, guidelines, and trends on student mobility
- Knowledge of student processes from admission through to registration and articulation agreements
- Knowledge and understanding of Western's Senate policies on admission and transfer
- Proven ability to take initiative and champion a project from conception through implementation and evaluation
- Strong people management experience with direct accountability for recruitment, ongoing training and development, and performance management
