Summary of Position


Performs routine and preventative maintenance of recreation facilities, general housekeeping and minor repairs to the equipment and infrastructure at the Community Centre and other Town owned buildings.


Responsibilities

  • Performs routine and preventative building maintenance, ice and pool maintenance, general housekeeping, minor repairs to equipment, electrical, some carpentry and painting of Town recreation facilities.
  • Operates fleet vehicles and equipment including an ice resurfacer, trucks, tractors, forklifts, ice edgers and assorted ice making and facility tools.
  • Performs daily, weekly, and annual area inspections and maintenance tasks for ice rinks (ice thickness inspections, ice installation and removal, painting, logos, custom painting for special events), pools, squash courts, fitness centre, seniors centre, and other recreation facilities/amenities.
  • Assists Facility Operator IIs and certified refrigeration mechanics with ice plant repairs and equipment overhauls.
  • Identifies and reports refrigeration alarms and/or pressures/temperatures beyond normal operating parameters.
  • Enters refrigeration plant, strictly adhering to technical standards and safety authority legislation, OHSA and the B52 refrigeration code.
  • Assists in select refrigeration plant inspections and records pressures and temperatures as directed by the Chief Operator.
  • Assists with performing regular and annual pool maintenance tasks including backwashes, water chemistry calculations and chemical addition, water balancing, equipment repairs, verification of pool heating and air distribution systems and computer controls.
  • Opens and closes the Lake Lisgar water park.
  • Adheres to provincial pool promotion and protection act legislation governing Class A public swimming pools when maintaining pool.
  • Assists in performing repairs and equipment servicing, annual maintenance work
  • Assists with larger scale repairs, projects, and renovations as requested by the Chief Operator.
  • Assists with housekeeping duties as required including sweeping, mopping, spot cleaning, washing and disinfecting.
  • Assists with outdoor maintenance as required including snow removal, salting, and litter removal.
  • Sets up and tears down activity areas to support special events.
  • Provides courteous and helpful customer service to members of the Public.
  • Liaises with the public, user groups, stakeholders, and contractors as required.
  • Verifies work completed by Facility Attendants and provides direction as required.
  • Assists in training, mentoring, and coaching of Facility Attendants and other staff members.
  • Ensures safe work practices by adhering to all emergency and operating procedures and safety regulations including the proper handling and storing of chemical and emergency evacuation plans.
  • Ensures overall safety and evacuation during fire alarms, gas or chemical leaks or other emergencies in the absence of Facility Supervisors according to the Community Centre Fire Safety Plan under the Ontario Fire Code.
  • Maintains accurate records of inspections, work completed, and reports work that is unable to be completed.
  • Carries out all duties and responsibilities using due diligence and complying with Ontario Health and Safety Act and regulations.
  • Recommends cost saving measures relating to daily operations and general operational improvements.
  • Provides input in the development and review of policies, procedures, standards, and programs related to operations.
  • Occasionally required to perform work alone following related safety procedures.
  • Attends all scheduled meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Wears safety equipment at all times while on duty.
  • Carries out all duties and responsibilities in compliance with Town safety policies and operating and emergency procedure and in accordance with Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations.
  • Reports all accidents/incidents, problems or concerns to the Supervisor.
Follows all Town policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Completed secondary school education or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two (2) years' of relevant work experience in facility maintenance, facility operations, and/or facility housekeeping in a recreational facility is preferred.
