Description

The primary goal of Tillicum Lelum Aboriginal Friendship Centre's (TLAFC) Childminding program is to provide excellent childminding services to the children and families who participate in TLAFC by offering a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment for young children.

The children ages range from 10 months to 6 years and occasionally school age. Childminding offered throughout the year except for statutory holidays as well as the week between Christmas and New Years.


The childminding offered will be in the spirit of the mission and philosophy of TLAFC that is a holistic approach including families' physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well being.


Organizational Structure:

The Childminder is responsible for assisting the Building Better Babies and Creating Healthy Families program coordinators in caring for children while their parents are engaging in programs


Hours:

The hours are Monday to Thursday from 10:00am to 1:00pm.


Salary:
$16.75 per hour with no benefits.


Qualifications:

The Childminder will have experience in the care of young children. ECE certificate or equivalent experience, CPR & Emergency First Aid for Children, and relevant training/workshops would be an asset. Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture would be preferred.


Responsibilities:


  • Assist the BBB and CHF Coordinator in meeting licensing requirements.
  • Model appropriate behaviour and methods of discipline.
  • Be aware of TLAFC Personnel Policies.
  • Communicate needs for supplies to coordinator.
  • Assist in orienting parents and children to the childminding program.
  • Represent TLAFC at community events.
  • Perform any other relevant duty assigned by Childminding Coordinator or Management.

Standards of Performance

The Childminder will:

  • Play with children that engages their interests, curiosity, imagination, and happiness.
  • Provide Aboriginal cultural and spiritual childminding activities including land-based teachings.
  • Build connections with children by being on their level, talking about what they're doing, using encouraging words, and acknowledging their feelings.
  • Build connections with parents by greeting them; asking about their children's interests; and, providing feedback on how and what they did in childminding.
  • Role model appropriate ways of dealing with the behaviours of young children.
  • Ensure their physical and emotional safety.
  • Assist in planning a craft and/or activity for each session.
  • Be professional manner at all times.
  • Participate in at least one training event each year.
  • Communicate concerns to immediate supervisor.
  • Provide at least 2-hours notice in case of absence.
  • Submit bi-weekly timesheet.

Part-time hours: 15 per week

$16.75 per hour
