We are seeking an Environmental Scientist or Planner to join our team of talented environmental professionals in our Sudbury office.

Hatch's Environment and Sustainability practice focuses on providing our clients to solutions to their environmental and social challenges.

The group works directly with clients or in collaboration with other service areas within Hatch, in developing new business opportunities.


Qualifications and Experience:


  • A Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Environmental Planning, Geography, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, or equivalent in related discipline;
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience;
  • Environmental and social impact assessment process experience;
  • Knowledge of environmental and social due diligence an asset;
  • Flexibility to travel periodically;
  • Knowledge of French and/or Spanish is an advantage.

The Role:


  • Contribute to or manage baseline environmental studies, environmental assessments, environmental management strategies, and plans including research, report writing, field work, and stakeholder and regulatory consultation;
  • Collect and synthesize scientific literature, existing data sets and secondary source material for technical reports;
  • Identify potential environmental impacts as a result of land use changes and recommend suitable mitigation strategies to avoid and / or reduce potential impacts;
  • Lead and support permitting, and approvals related to the natural environment (e.g., Environmental Protection Act, Fisheries Act, Impact Assessment Act);
  • Maintain an up to date knowledge of existing and emerging regulatory requirements, wildlife and vegetation assessment methodologies, and best practices;
  • Coordinate work with other environmental specialists (i.e. noise, air, archaeology, built heritage, fisheries, terrestrial ecologists, climate change, etc.).
  • Deliver highquality environmental services to agreed budgets and deadlines;
  • Excellent communications skills and an ability to develop personal networks;
  • An ability to work in a multidisciplinary and integrated team environment;
  • Experience working in a fast paced, consulting environment;
  • Desire to eventually take on the responsibilities of business development and project management;
  • Excellent written communication skills;
  • An ability to be flexible, learn and perform challenging tasks outside their area of skills and experience; and
  • Ability to work well with internal and external stakeholders;
