We are currently hiring an
Area
Accounting Clerk to join our dynamic team The Area Accounting Clerk is responsible for performing all on-site accounting duties as required for the Valhalla Hotel & Conference Centre, Days Inn & Suites and Days Inn North Thunder Bay.

This includes some accounts receivable, accounts payables, and payroll functions.

This role works in coordination with the home office accounting and finance department team while reporting to the General Manager.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Manage all phases of accounts payables and accounts receivables;
  • Oversee and lead the payroll process for the Hotel, providing guidance and direction to department leaders to ensure payroll accuracy and processing;
  • Ensure that guests have the best possible experience by troubleshooting and resolving all billingrelated disputes in a timely manner. All guest concerns should be acknowledged within 48 hours of receiving the initial complaint;
  • Prepare regular reports and summaries of accounting activities as required;
  • Review all ledger details: guest ledger, city ledger, and deposit ledgers to validate proper payment and revenue posting, resolve issues as needed;
  • Prepare financial reports and submissions to relevant government entities;
  • Ensure cash flows are adequate to allow business units to operate effectively;
  • Ensure all new hire paperwork, benefits and other pertinent personnel documents are efiled in Payworks and maintained in accordance with the company HR practices;
  • Monitor and contain all property inventories to ensure proper levels of property cash flows;
  • Provide direction and training to the hotel operational team in areas related to finance, financial reports, internal controls, payroll, etc;
  • Recommend and maintain a system of policies and procedures that impose an adequate level of control over Finance Department activities;
  • Liaise with all supporting departments to ensure a seamless experience for our guests, ensuring our vision of passionate people creating exceptional experiences is at the forefront of every interaction;
  • Perform other reasonable job duties as requested by the General Managers and Area Accountant.

Environmental Factors

  • Primarily a weekday schedule, Monday to Friday, with some occasional work required in the evenings and on weekends.
  • Travel to the different hotel locations as needed and often work from various hotel locations.
  • Significant time spent on a computer keyboard.
  • Regular communication with Hotel General Managers and Corporate Finance Managers.
  • Some lifting (up to 30 lbs), on occasion.
  • A fastpaced and everevolving industry with high demands to perform.
  • Swift strategic thinking while under pressure to execute project strategies.

What We Are Looking For...

  • Required to have knowledge of GAAP and accounting software as well as general administration;
  • Demonstrated finance experience, preferably in hospitality;
  • Accounting skills and knowledge acquired through business college, (ie: Degree or Diploma in Accounting) and through enrolment in an accounting program (i.e. CGA, CPA or CMA) are considered an asset ;
  • Strong administrative, organizational, and time management skills;
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal;
  • Exceptional analytical skills to prepare reports and solve routine accounting problems;
  • Strong Computer skills knowledge of ACCPAC, Maestro, Opera, POS, Delphi, and Excel is a definite asset.
  • Thrives in a fastpaced environmentmaintaining composure and objectivity with guests and team members;
  • Passionate about delivering experiences that exceed guest expectations
  • Computer use and cashiering skills required
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must be detail oriented with the ability to prioritize, organize and multitask
  • Proven time management skills and ability to work under pressure;
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • Class 'G" Driver's license an asset

Salary Range
$ $42000 / year
