POSITION PURPOSE:


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Corporate Governance:

Departmental Planning functions work in close collaboration with Housing Services branch of the Community & Health Services Department; consistent with the Region's policies, vision and strategy; supporting the development and implementation of Corporate Initiatives, Programs, Processes, Policies, and Protocols.


  • Reviews and analyzes new affordable, emergency and transitional housing development proposals for conformity with governing policy and legislation.
  • Draft documents, coordinate circulation and collaboration with staff for the issuance of relevant procurement/tender instruments (ex. RFP, RFQ, RFPQ, etc.)
  • Carries out research on assigned projects; compiles and analyzes statistics related to project plans or area studies.
  • Drafts and prepares reports, council reports, and correspondence, as required, and attends meetings.
  • Produces reports on issues and makes recommendations of preferred course of action on planning projects.
  • Attends and/or makes presentations at public and professional forums.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, in accordance with Branch and Department objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Successful completion of a University Degree in urban planning or related discipline.
  • Membership or able to sucessfully obtain membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners (C.I.P.) or Professional Equivalent, within six months of hire.
  • Minimum two (2) years experience in the planning field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of real estate development.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Planning Act, planning principles, concepts, practices, methods and applicable legislation.
  • Thorough knowledge of land development, construction basics, and financial proformas.
  • Demonstrated presentation skills to present information to varied audiences and advanced writing skills to prepare detailed reports/materials of varying complexity.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer focus, communication, collaboration and personal ownership.
