Position Title:
Program Staff, Youth Leadership Development

Canada Summer Jobs Grant


Location:
Tong Louie YMCA, Surrey, BC

Some work and programs may be conducted remotely and virtually


Terms:
Temporary, Part Time (approximately 9 weeks)


Hours of Work: 30 hours per week (Some evenings and weekends)


Rate:
$16.75 per hour


Start Date:
June 19, 2023


End Date:
August 18, 2023 (approximately 9 weeks), possibility for extension


Reports To:
Supervisor, Youth Programs


Nature & Scope:

The Program Staff, Youth Programs develop and deliver youth focused programming. Activities include team building, social events, volunteer opportunities, fundraising, training, and special events.

The YLD Program Staff reports to the Supervisor of Youth Programs and works collaboratively with other program staff to provide a safe and fun environment.


Canada Summer Jobs Criteria

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment.
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations. International participants are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian citizens or permanent residents

Major Responsibilities:


  • Organize, plan and support inperson programming
  • Oversite of youth summer camp running July and August
  • Actively facilitate and interact with youth and lead programs in a positive and professional manner
  • Build meaningful relationships through positive interaction with YMCA program participants
  • Ensures that the program operates smoothly and ensures that the service provided to communities is of excellent quality
  • Research and build Youth Leadership Development flexible and adaptive curriculum in the framework of YLD learning outcomes
  • Model appropriate behaviour in line with the Mission, Vision, and Values of the YMCA
  • Create and maintain a positive atmosphere and work to build positive selfesteem and confidence
  • Ensure the safety of all members, participants, staff, and property by following YMCA standards/policies/ procedures
  • Maintain an atmosphere of achievement that inspires self and others to succeed at the highest levels
  • Maintain a neat, orderly, and clean environment, including all program areas, common spaces, and washrooms
  • Attend staff meetings, planning sessions and training events as required
  • Engage the youth in a community project where they volunteer and give back to the community
  • Assist with other YMCA Youth Programs projects as needed

Requirements:


  • High School Diploma
  • Working towards postsecondary degree in youth work field an asset
  • Experience working with youth ages 101
  • Able to manage and facilitate small groups of youth
  • Current Standard First Aid certificate with CPR level C & AED
  • Experience and sensitivity with members of different cultural and racial backgrounds, including visible and invisible dimensions of diversity
  • Well developed interpersonal and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with youth participants, staff, and volunteers
  • Demonstrated high level of customer service skills
  • 3 professional references
