Job Summary

NAV CANADA is looking for a Specialist, Enterprise Data and Information Governance to join our team. In this role, you will participate in developing our Enterprise Data and Information Governance Program (EDIG). This program is in its foundational stage and will set the stage for digital transformation here at NAV CANADA.

The employee in this role will have the opportunity to influence the organizational direction of how we manage our data and information and will be creating consistency to enhance our organizational ability to collaborate.


In this role you will be responsible for providing day-to-day coordination of the delivery and support of EDIG services, collaborating with stakeholders to identify and operationalize key policies and supporting documents, and for providing expertise and advice to ensure that data and information is treated as a corporate asset.

In this role you will:

  • Contribute to the strategic development and implementation of data and information governance, foster innovation and longterm performance.
  • Identify, develop, and support policies, standards and guidelines for data and information governance.
  • Participate in the development and operationalization of key EDIG services including records management, information architecture, classification, criticality, and data quality.
  • Assess information systems and provide guidance about how to comply with EDIG policies.
  • Develop and deliver data and information governance learning sessions to expand the adoption and awareness of data and information governance, quality and metadata capabilities for staff.

What you bring:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Library Sciences, Statistics, Engineering, Finance, Economics, Mathematics or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 35 Years of experience in data and information management or governance activities or related experience and knowledge of best practices in large process improvement projects.
  • Experience in records management activities including developing, managing, socializing, and maintaining retention schedules.
  • Experience in developing functional information architectures, taxonomies, and metadata to facilitate organizing, storing, protecting, and retrieving information.
  • Experience in developing policies, standards, and guidelines related to data and information governance.
  • Experience in managing projects.
  • Experience with SharePoint's document management capabilities.
  • Knowledge of project management approaches, tools and lifecycles.
  • Knowledge of complete lifecycles of data and information.
  • Knowledge of trends, business drivers, common problems and limitations, and best practices in the data and information management industry.
  • Knowledge of the technology tools, standards and methodologies pertaining to the management of data and information.
