Position Purpose


Assists the Park Operations Supervisor and existing Horticulture Lead Hand with the scheduling of horticultural work, coordination of activities, record keeping, and providing job-site work instructions to staff.

Assists with designing, preparing and revitalizing gardens and horticultural features and maintaining greenhouse inventory to support the Town summer horticultural programs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum two (2) years related experience in a municipal park operations environment;
  • Previous experience operating various parks related equipment (i.e. turf maintenance equipment, woodchippers, tractor, loader, dumptruck);
  • Good customer service skills to deal effectively with the general public;
  • Possess a Valid Class 'G' Driver's Licence;
  • Driver's Abstract deemed as satisfactory to the Town, required to operate Corporation vehicles;

Position Summary


Assists the Park Operations Supervisor and existing Lead Hands with the scheduling of work, coordination of activities, record keeping, and providing job-site work instructions to staff in order to maintain the quality of operations and appearance of the parks, sports fields, beaches and other municipal facilities.


Responsibilities

Work Planning, Scheduling and Monitoring

  • Assigns, oversees and provides jobsite work instructions for the activities of seasonal staff performing routine operations and maintenance tasks ensuring all tasks are performed to established service level standards/expectations.
  • Monitors "Hours of Service" for all Staff operating equipment in accordance with the Ontario Commercial Vehicle Operators Registration (CVOR) requirements.
  • Identifies necessary work at job sites, and prioritizes work using criticality methods.

Health & Safety, Policies and Procedures

  • Ensures staff comply with the _Occupational Health and Safety Act_ and other applicable legislation
  • Ensures staff adhere the Town's Health and Safety Program, procedures and best practices on jobsites.

Horticultural Operations and Maintenance

  • Plants annuals in containers and beds.
  • Waters planting material.
  • Applies mulch to shrub beds and tree wells.
  • Waters trees.
  • Prunes hedges and shrubs and removes, disposes of and replaces dead shrubs and hedges as necessary;
  • Assist special events such as event set up as required.
  • Ensures that safety and other approved regulations are observed by all persons using municipal facilities.
  • Transports equipment/supplies from one location to another as required.

  • Working knowledge of all applicable health and safety regulations and legislation;
  • Good communication and public relations skills are required for interactions with the public, staff and management;
  • Ability to interact courteously and effectively with the general public, user groups and staff;
  • Excellent organizational, problemsolving, supervisory, communication and leadership skills;
  • Flexibility to work shifts, weekends and holidays;
  • Good customer service skills to deal effectively with the general public;
  • Possess a Valid Class 'G' Driver's Licence;
  • Driver's Abstract deemed as satisfactory to the Town, required to operate Corporation vehicles;
